Lightweight, durable, panel doors decorated with veneer or PVC foil are becoming increasingly popular. Such doors do not sag under their own weight and their fastenings and accessories do not have to be infinitely pulled in order to eliminate distortions. Most often, such doors are used as interior doors, but with special processing of the shield surface with varnishes and protective paints, they can also be hung on the entrance door frame.

Materials and tools for the manufacture of the frame
Many people prefer to buy a switchboard door ready-made. Then it remains only to hang it, carefully checking the angles. The door must be fixed strictly parallel to the floor. The bias in the fraction of centimeters will increase much later, because under the weight of its own gravity, the structure will sag in the direction in which there is a bias. There is another way to get a durable stylish door to make it yourself. The process is not complicated and with careful observance of some tips, it is quite feasible.
You will need the following materials:
- Bar section 100 * 150, for the door frame
- Dry bars for the frame with a size of at least 30 * 40 (in the case of the manufacture of the front door, the thickness and width can be large)
- Plywood or fiberboard
- Veneer or film for decorative finishes
- Materials for filling the voids (foam, cardboard or plywood to choose from)
- Wood glue
In addition to the materials themselves, for the manufacture of a panel door, you will need tools that can greatly facilitate the process.
- Power saw (preferably circular, cuts and ends are much more accurate)
- Drill
- Power Planer
- Chisel

Door frame preparation
As we said above, it is not difficult to make panel doors with your own hands. To do this, it is enough to have basic knowledge in the carpentry, to have skills in working with power tools and to be able to make elementary calculations.
Work should begin with the manufacture of the door frame. The beam must be thoroughly dried, otherwise it will surely lead and warp, as a result of which all work will have to be done anew. Dry bars need to be cut (you need to make a small margin in length), then planed. The thickness and width after gouging must be the same!
Next, you need to mark the workpieces, determine the size of the grooves and remove one quarter under the future door. (this can be done using a vertical router). After that, cut the grooves for the transverse and vertical boards.
Assemble the door frame from the finished parts and insert it into the opening.
Panel door manufacturing
After making the box, you should start preparing the frame for the wooden panel door.
Of course, there are standard sizes that should be used in the manufacture of the door, but in this case, you should focus on the size of the door frame. Measurement is made on the inside of the box. After measurements, subtract 2mm from three sides and 8-10mm from the bottom. This is what the dimensions of your future door will be.
After measurements, it is necessary to saw the bar in this way: Two vertical sections along the height of the box, three horizontal sections along the width. Moreover, one of the transverse bars should be shorter, this will be the so-called centerpiece, which will fasten the structure in the middle.
Next, you need to put on the floor a pre-cut-to-size blank from fiberboard or plywood and lay the blanks for the frame on it. Vertical - in height, horizontal, respectively, in width. The junction of the transverse bars is marked with a pencil. This is necessary in order to gash the connection, and determine the place for the third middle bar. Its location depends on the height of the lock and the door handle that you will install. After marking all the bars, they need to be numbered, this will help to quickly assemble the finished frame.
The next step is the cuts for a thorn-groove connection. It is not particularly necessary to be wise, it is enough to cut out square holes, focusing on the width of the board and deepen them at half the thickness. The cuts must be strictly perpendicular, otherwise the design will turn out to be curved and crooked.
Coat all the bars on the inner contacting side with carpentry glue and lay them on plywood. All grooves should also be covered with a layer of glue. Align the width of the sheet while maintaining the geometry. At the joints of the bars, we drill screws, for additional structural strength. On top of the frame also cover with a layer of glue and cover with a second sheet of fiberboard. It will turn out a sandwich, which must be put under the press. To do this, it is enough to press the door with any load, the main thing is that it is distributed evenly. Leave to glue to dry completely.
That's all. The panel door is ready for use. In order for it to have soundproofing properties, the void inside can be filled with polystyrene or cellular cardboard. For decorative decoration of the door, you can use any veneer or film, which is quite simple to stick on your own. All work takes no more than a few hours and saves a lot of personal funds.
