Today, for the manufacture of window sills, a wide variety of materials are used, each of which is characterized by its disadvantages and advantages. In accordance with the materials used for their manufacture, the following types of window sills are distinguished:
1. Wooden window sills: more expensive and high-quality window sills are made of solid pine, oak or beech wood, a less expensive option is larch. Cheaper wooden window sills are made from planks that stick together to form a multilayer product. After gluing, a specialized protective coating is applied to the multilayer window sills, which protects the product from damage. Wooden window sills require observance of special rules of care: it is forbidden to wash them with plenty of water, as well as with the use of solvents or abrasives. Once every 5 years it is necessary to apply a layer of wax or protective varnish on such window sills.
2. Stone window sills are considered a truly luxurious and sophisticated element of the interior and are made from natural rocks such as marble, granite and onyx. Window sills in this case are made to order. The breed of stone, and, accordingly, its color determines the color of the window sill in the interior: the stone with a large number of veins looks most original (onyx is considered such a stone). However, it also has a significant drawback: the larger the number of veins, the higher the likelihood of cracking of the material. Window sills made of artificial stone or composites are in no way inferior in their operational and physical properties to window sills made of natural stone, however, their cost is several times lower. Moreover, products made of composites are not afraid of exposure to high temperatures, do not crack from any shock and do not lose their aesthetic appearance from spilled coffee or wine. The only thing that can not be used in the process of operating composite window sills is detergents containing abrasives.
4. Plastic window sills or window sills made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) have almost the highest operational properties, do not change their configuration during use and do not lose their high characteristics under the influence of ultraviolet radiation. Moreover, they are characterized by absolute durability, water resistance and the highest wear resistance. The design of PVC window sills is represented by a hollow multi-chamber structure, which is divided by a large number of internal partitions. Features of the structure determine the high strength and stiffness of the plastic window sills, as well as high thermal insulation characteristics (due to the presence of air in the hollow cells). Choosing plastic, you do not have to think about the color of the windowsill in the interior, as this material has a large number of color design solutions.

1. Plastic window sills with a standard coating, which are excellent for domestic needs, but do not have heat-resistant and impact-resistant coating, and withstand loads up to 100 kg;
2. Plastic window sills with heat-resistant and shock-resistant coating most optimally act as wide window sills, which in the future will be used as a work surface. The plastic thickness of such window sills is significantly greater than that of standard window sills.
