How to install a lock on the gate with your own hands

Sliding gate lock
The design of the sliding gates does not provide for the installation of the above systems of constipation. Yes, they can be installed, but the installation of such a lock in most cases is not advisable. For sliding gates use a lock with a L-shaped crossbar. This is the lock applies to mortise locks. On the market they sell products of both domestic and foreign production.
Depending on the manufacturer of the castle, parts can be made of silumin (Russia, China) or brass (Italy, Germany). Brass is more durable and wear-resistant, less subject to sticking and souring of the mechanism.

Locking the gate
Padlocks are the easiest way to install a lock on a swing gate. For them, you only need to weld two eyes and you're done. In this case, you need a welding machine.
To install a padlock or mortise lock you will need a few more tools. First of all, it is necessary to choose the type of padlock depending on the configuration of the gate (left, right, opening in / out). Mortise locks do not have such a division.
To install the castle you must have:
- drill with a set of drills;
- grinder;
- set of open-end wrenches;
- set of screwdrivers;
- a ruler;
- metal scriber;
- screwdriver;
- welding machine.
To protect the lock mechanism from weather conditions, it is advisable to make a sheet metal box under the lock. This will provide additional protection against hacking. To remove moisture, which will oozing near the handle and the larva of the castle, it is necessary to provide drainage at the bottom of the box. It should also be remembered that regular lubrication of the lock will ensure a long and reliable operation. For lubrication use only special greases: VD 40, silicone grease, graphite dust, it all depends on the lock mechanism.
It is forbidden to lubricate the lock with vegetable or sunflower oil, this can lead to the failure of the lock and jamming of the locking bolt.
