This mysterious Chinese style
For those who are at least a little familiar with the Chinese design style, it is not a secret that it is not at all in a specific painting, lanterns, fans or hieroglyphs. This is the result of many years of work and grinding, it is based on the famous Feng Shui doctrine, which teaches not only how to arrange objects, but also the principles of creating the right energy space inside the house, providing conditions that are comfortable and favorable for a person. When studying the characteristics of Chinese culture, it comes to the realization that each of its works is aimed at finding a philosophical beginning in each of the surrounding objects.
Work on the creation of an interior in the Chinese style can be carried out in different directions, namely:
- consist in filling rooms with objects that are exotic, original, conveying the flavor of the country,
- or be aimed at studying the energy of space, zoning the territory according to the teachings of Feng Shui, and then supplementing it with the accessories inherent in Chinese culture.
Basic concepts of Chinese interior design
The Chinese-style room decoration culture is based on the principles of observing the laws of nature and the redistribution of energies; it allows you to create a special atmosphere that is pleasant for people. Since many traditions have been formed in the country over the millennia, the presence of not only furniture but also various accessories telling what exactly is valuable to people living in the house has become an obligatory feature of the style.
A distinctive feature of the Chinese interior can be called simplicity - the space should not be oversaturated with diverse decor items, it is preferable to use the minimum number of them. But at the same time, each element of the decor should carry a semantic load, effectively emphasize the involvement of the interior in the Chinese style.
As such a subject characteristic of a Chinese house, one can consider a screen painted with national landscapes.
It not only brings revival to the austere interior and serves as its decoration - it is a functional detail that allows you to create a secluded corner in the room. The main condition is that the screen should be folded up, it can easily be transferred from one room to another, as necessary. Previously, it was customary to make screens from rice paper or thin fabric stretched over a light lattice structure. Nowadays, for the manufacture of screens using a variety of materials, including valuable natural wood with inlay, bamboo. The option of using a Chinese screen for decorating a room is a fairly simple and effective, but not the cheapest, way of introducing elements characteristic of the Chinese style into the European interior.
Features of living room decoration
walls
Each of the national styles is characterized by the use of exclusively natural materials for interior decoration, and Chinese is no exception. The most commonly used plaster and wall painting, but it should be remembered that the usual paper wallpaper for us is also an invention of Chinese masters.
Painted walls are usually painted with local mountain landscapes, exotic birds, dwarf trees and exquisite flowering plants.
The figures used carry a certain semantic load, therefore, before choosing a particular image, it will not be superfluous to take an interest in deciphering it.
The modern Chinese interior of the living room may involve the use of natural wood of valuable species, necessarily a dark shade, to finish one of the walls. This solution allows designers to add contrast to the interior. The pattern and color of wood can overlap with the shade of the material used to decorate the ceiling surface, or vice versa - with the color of the flooring.
floors
Flooring is usually done with a massive board of dark shades, less commonly used light materials. It will be appropriate to install bamboo flooring, as an alternative, a laminate or a carpet of a mat type can be considered, often stylists suggest the use of large floor tiles made of porcelain stoneware or other similar materials, calm tones, without bright patterns.
the ceilings
We should talk about the ceilings especially - they require special finishes. A prerequisite is the multi-level ceiling and giving it a light tone. These factors contribute to the visual increase in the volume of space, allow you to create the illusion of the presence of sky and sun in the room.
To decorate the ceilings, wooden structures are used, contrasting with respect to the main surface, more often - rectangular in shape, with backlight.
What colors and shades to use in the Chinese interior
For the Chinese interior, characters have saturated bright shades, this fact does not cause much surprise, because it is red color that is the most popular in the country. Such sympathy for color is based on the belief that red color brings prosperity and good luck. So that the red carpet, laid on the floor in the living room, will be quite appropriate. Bright shades of blue, yellow, and golden can be used as color accents.
If the red color for some reason is completely unacceptable, then you can turn to the shades of brown, cream, beige or milky white that designers love today. Their combinations are acceptable for a conceptual solution to interior decor. But changing the background color does not mean that you can move away from tradition and litter the room with unnecessary things or non-functional pieces of furniture.
If you create an interior in the Chinese traditional style, then with all its simplicity, it will look really expensive.
Furniture for the Chinese interior and its features
The Chinese style is characterized by furniture on low legs, squat, with clear geometric shapes and right angles. The capacity of the cabinets and cabinets is not given by height, but by width and depth. Naturally, you have to get furniture made of natural wood: sandalwood, Manchurian walnut, olive or oak. The material should be perfectly polished and varnished. Can also be used furniture painted in red, painted with specific ornaments. A modern approach to design principles allows the use of rattan, plywood or bamboo furniture as additional furniture.
A feature of Chinese furniture is the option of using carved jewelry for it from thin plywood (intarsia). If European craftsmen in the manufacture of furniture sink carved fragments into the surface itself, forming a single level surface, then in China it is customary that carved fragments protrude above the surface. They can be painted in any colors. Usually used to decorate tables or cabinets.
For the Chinese style, surprising asceticism is inherent, for example, the interior of the bedroom can consist of a bed and a pair of symmetrically arranged nightstands, and the living room - in a coffee table, a pair of armchairs and a sofa. Again, you have to remember such a typical subject of decoration for China as a screen.
In the modern version, it can be made of wood, rice paper, silk or even plastic, but its decor will be a beautiful moment, attracting attention with a specific picture. The advantage of a folding screen is the ability, if desired, to quickly divide the space of the room into zones and free it from the partition, without making much effort and without time.
Accessories for creating a Chinese interior
Their selection should be carried out with special care, saturating the room with objects should not be forgotten that the atmosphere should maintain a sense of spaciousness and lightness. As an addition, you can use:
- porcelain table and floor vases, utensils for tea drinking, figurines;
- ceramic or clay dishes or dolls figurines;
- textile or bamboo coasters, napkins, fans;
- metal forging or decorative crafts;
- indoor living plants: chrysanthemums, orchids, peonies, trees.
Some caution should be exercised in filling the interior with paintings and hieroglyphs. All images in Chinese culture are interpreted meaningfully and peculiarly, no line can be drawn without a certain context.
Thinking of using any image in the design of the room, you should consult a specialist and clarify how positive and useful the semantic load contained in it is. Naturally, you can use only those pictures whose content is aimed at protecting the house and the people living in it or at attracting good luck.
Revival of the atmosphere can also be made by placing an image of the symbol of the Celestial Empire - a picturesque dragon. Of course, one should not overdo it here either. The selection of specific accents and their placement require impeccable taste and the ability to create harmonious compositions.
In conclusion, we can say that the Chinese style in the interior is the best option for those who can appreciate non-standard solutions, bright colors and conciseness, it is appreciated by philosophers and people who know how to honor traditions and strive to create a peaceful atmosphere in the house.
Chinese style bedroom interior
The design of such a room can be called rather exotic; not everyone can design it competently. First of all, it should gravitate toward minimalism, which allows to achieve a state of peace. The color scheme of the room should be decided in brown, beige, red, white, black can also be used.
In principle, it is not the choice of shades that matters, but their ability to create a harmonious combination. For example, black and red will add sophistication to the bedroom, with the addition of gold paintings or carvings, the room will acquire a luxurious look. Dimensions of the selected furniture should be commensurate with the size of the room. Too much room is not recommended.
When arranging furniture, the principle of symmetry should be observed. It is good if the selected furniture is lacquered or glossy, the presence of colored glasses is also welcome. The main item in the bedroom is the tatami bed, which is a mattress located on a very low base. Chests are often placed near the bed, the use of Chinese lanterns as lighting devices is possible.
Textiles will emphasize the stylishness of the room, and it can be used not only for curtains - walls decorated with thin silk will give a special charm to the bedroom.
To give the bedroom a Chinese flavor, you can use:
- bamboo screens, or its image on wallpaper, on textiles;
- hieroglyphs, but first you need to clarify their meaning;
- the sun, which can symbolize a round object on the wall: a panel, a mirror, a large lamp;
- labyrinths that can be reproduced in the design of shelves;
- buddha figures, Chinese porcelain vases;
- from plants, bamboo and ferns planted in vases or tubs are appropriate.
When designing a bedroom, one should not forget that style requires the presence of free space, harmony and order.
Chinese kitchen interior
At first glance, a black and red kitchen may seem too extravagant. But the intarsia on the furniture, well-chosen decor elements, wallpaper with Chinese motifs or wall paintings in the same spirit, original paintings by Gohua, porcelain vases and soft lighting give it a rich and comfortable look.
For the manufacture of furniture, dark wood, lacquered or glossy, with carving or painting, is preferred. For countertops, marble or natural stone can be used. The dining area is decorated with furniture on low legs: tea tables, upholstered sofas, pillows made of expensive fabrics. A mandatory attribute of the kitchen is the Chinese tea ceremony set.
The use of black and red colors characteristic of the Chinese style can be limited by the size of the room - in a large area their presence is not limited, but in a small room it is more rational to give preference to light colors, decorate them with a ceiling, floor and walls, black and red can be used as decorating strokes that attract attention and emphasize the style.
The Chinese prefer to leave windows in the kitchen open, but you can use blinds, Roman curtains or a light silk curtain if you wish.
