Water supply at the summer cottage all year, installation and insulation of water supply systems, water supply stations, projects, useful tips
Comfortable operation of a summer cottage or a country house today is simply unthinkable without a water supply system. Moreover, each owner tries to automate the water supply, equip a well or well with an electric pump, the water supply is connected to the house and auxiliary outbuildings. Naturally, with a permanent residence in a private house or an active visit to it both in summer and winter, the estate owners prefer that the water supply system works all year round, and does not freeze even in severe frosts.

How is the water main
It includes the outer part and the inside, both of them are designed to supply water to the points of water intake in the room. The simplest water supply system built in the country includes:
- source - a well or a well,
- water pump
- filters
- pipes and fittings, recently consumers have preferred polypropylene pipes, high-quality, characterized by a long service life.
More complex, automated circuits also include components to protect the pump from overload, shut-off valves, automation for process control. Installation of the system should be carried out in such a way as to provide easy access to the components of the structure, the possibility of their inspection, preventive measures and repairs.
The internal wiring diagram is more dependent on the wishes of the owners of the house and their financial capabilities.
Centralized water supply
The simplest version of the arrangement will require a water supply connected to a centralized one, however, even if there is a centralized water supply, problems may arise due to instability of the water supply or its insufficient pressure in the system. In this case, you will definitely need to consider installing
- storage tanks
- pumps
- construction of an additional source.
Although the installation of additional components of a water supply system powered from a centralized one will complicate the work somewhat, it is not at all difficult to build such a water supply system, it is quite possible to cope with the work yourself: it will be enough to dig a trench, lay water pipes in it and run into the central highway.
Alternative sources of water
As alternative sources of obtaining water at the summer cottage, mine wells or wells can be used. Each of these sources has advantages and disadvantages, so their choice should be made taking into account the depth of water and the thickness of its layer.
well
The construction of a mine well will be rational if the water lies at a depth of not more than 10 m. You can build a well yourself, it will be enough to attract a couple of people to help and study the theoretical side of the issue. Well care will also not require much effort and expense. The main drawback of such a source may be an insufficient amount of water in it, especially in the summer, when the groundwater level decreases, and the water flow increases - visiting the cottage becomes systematic, the plants planted on the beds require watering, etc. Before digging a well, it is necessary to calculate how approximately the amount of water a source can provide and what its actual flow rate can be. To supply water from the well, you will need to install a pump, deep or surface.
well
When a water bed is located at a depth of more than 10 m, it is recommended to drill a well. Its cost is much higher, but there is enough water in it for all household needs. Since the construction and maintenance of a well is not a cheap pleasure, sometimes resorting to the construction of one well in several sections. Water from such a source is supplied to the water supply system using a submersible pump (well pump). Its cost is higher, but it works more efficiently.
Summer water supply
If the use of the cottage is planned only during the spring-summer period, then warming the water supply will not be needed. There are two types of summer water supply.
A collapsible is constructed from hoses and connected to a pump supplying water from a source, laid on the ground surface, so that it does not interfere with the movement of the site owners and the passage of vehicles. For the construction of such a water supply system, hoses made of silicone or rubber are used, connected by plastic or metal adapters. You can also purchase special latches, which are on the one hand a ruff, on the other - a spring-loaded connector. Such a hose mount is quite reliable, it is very easy to perform. Hoses are laid directly on the ground. Such a system is usually built for watering beds, used only during the summer period. At the end of the season, the system is dismantled and cleaned in the utility room.
The second option is a stationary water supply laid underground. In this case, pipes, metal or plastic, are used to supply water, the latter, in view of their obvious advantages, are used more often. To lay pipes dig a trench about a meter deep. To prevent freezing of water in the pipes in winter, it will be necessary to completely pump it out of the water supply with the onset of cold weather. When designing such a water supply system, its bias to the drain valve is provided. The valve is located directly near the source of water supply.
How to build a water supply system for year-round water supply of a summer cottage
If necessary, you can build a water supply system that will work year-round. First you need to choose pipes, for the equipment of winter water supply, you can use polyethylene or polypropylene products. The price of the latter is higher, the system is assembled using a special soldering iron. Polyethylene cost is lower, no special devices for their assembly are required, the only problem is the higher cost of components.
Since the operation of the system is expected throughout the year, it will be necessary to carry out insulation of the water supply in the country. The construction of the water supply system in this case is carried out according to the recommended schemes. A mandatory point is to observe the bias of the system towards the water source.
The depth of the pipe laying should exceed the freezing level by at least 20 cm, in which case the water supply system can function in any frost. The second option is laying pipes at a shallower depth, but with their mandatory insulation. Trading companies offer a wide range of insulation materials, specialists recommend one of the best foam cylindrical polyethylene.
It is very easy to put it on the pipe, it is able to protect the highway from freezing and from mechanical influences.
During the construction of a winter water supply system, all its components should be insulated, up to the water source, insulation of a well or a well - a mandatory procedure. Especially important will be the insulation of the surface pump. Usually, a special pit is installed to place it directly near the water source (caisson). The pumping station is insulated by installing it in a special insulated room, the temperature in it should not fall below 0 degrees C. Not only the water supply system, but also the sewage system must be insulated, its freezing will cause disturbances in the operation of the entire drainage system.
Options for insulation of water pipes
If the means allow the insulation of the pipes can be performed using a heating cable - they wrap around the laid pipes. The advantage of this option is the possibility of a smaller deepening of the water supply system - it will be enough to deepen it by 0.5 m instead of the recommended 2 m, the main disadvantage is the high cost, 1 m of cable costs about $ 15. Most often, this method is used to warm a separate area: at the entrance to the water supply to the house.
Pipe freezing can be eliminated by creating high pressure in them, of the order of 5-7 atmospheres, and it will be necessary to maintain it during the period when the water supply system is not in operation.
A relatively affordable method is to lay water pipes inside larger diameter polypropylene pipes. In this case, for heating pipes, you can use heated air from the basement or cellar, its flow is organized from the exhaust pipe of the basement.
The simplest and most affordable options for pipe insulation are the use of foam or mineral wool materials.
Schemes and projects of a water supply system for a summer cottage
The first step is to determine the equipment that will be included in the water supply system, i.e. the number of points of water intake is specified, the number of fittings is calculated, and the material of the pipes used will be decided. Recently, plastic products are often resorted to - they are more durable and not susceptible to corrosion, they can be sewn into the walls.
Initially, a water supply scheme is drawn up, after all the details have been clarified, a detailed drawing of the designed water supply with dimensions is made. It is according to the drawing that the meter of pipes and the number of components are calculated. It is recommended to purchase materials with a small margin. Uninterrupted supply of water from the source can be provided by independently equipped equipment or by a pump station purchased ready-made.
Installation procedure
Then you can proceed with the installation work. They dig a trench from the source of water to the meta where the entrance to the house is planned. A deep pump is lowered into a well or a well, a caisson is built to install a surface pump, or it is installed in a heated room, the pump station must be insulated.
A pipe leading to a five-pin fitting is connected to the installed pump. The hydraulic accumulator is equipped with a pressure switch to ensure the safety of the system. With the help of a hydraulic accumulator, the necessary pressure will be maintained in the system, since its volume can be up to 500 liters, in emergency cases the system will be provided with an amount of water sufficient for the normal functioning of the water supply. To control the water pressure, a pressure gauge is included in the system. Having connected all the necessary devices to the remaining output of the fitting, they connect a pipe leading to the house. In addition to the main pipes, an electric armored cable is laid in the trench, designed to supply power to the accumulator and pump.
Be sure to ground the outlet to which all the mechanisms of the system will be connected.
Before entering the house, a stopcock should be installed - if necessary, maintenance or repair of the system with its help it will be possible to shut off the water.
You can fill up the trench with the pipes laid only after checking the operation of the water supply. If no defects are found, proceed with installation work inside the house. Whatever source of water is used in the system, it is necessary to install a filter or a whole system of filters, depending on the quality of the produced water. The main requirement for distributing water in the house is the possibility of further maximum comfortable use of the water supply system. In principle, the water distribution scheme in a country house is not much different from that used in a city apartment.
