Installing household electric stoves to replace gas stoves legally, how to do it right
While the apartment is as good as new, everything shines with bright colors after the last renovation - everything in it seems perfect and causes sincere delight. But time passes and again there is a desire to update the design of the room, and not just to whitewash, paint, I want to make a redevelopment, so that it is not only more beautiful, but also more comfortable. Most often, the ideas of radical changes relate to the bathroom and kitchen, the premises in which there is always little space for objects that I would like to place there. Often, along with the repair, the owners replace the gas stove with a new one, or even decide to replace the gas stove with an electric one. Here are just a lot of questions at the same time, and clear answers to them are not so easy to find.

Remodeling the kitchen - a responsible step
Lawyers assure: in order to prevent the emergence of claims of various kinds from regulatory authorities, the redevelopment of the kitchen should be coordinated and documented. Unfortunately, ignorance or legal illiteracy cannot save from liability, and this should not be forgotten.
It is imperative to contact the appropriate organizations regarding:
- joining the kitchen of the balcony,
- replacing a gas stove or changing its location,
- replacing a gas stove with an electric one.
In other words, a conceived redevelopment should be legalized in advance.
Installation and connection of an electric stove
As already mentioned, such an action needs to be agreed upon. According to the law, owners of an apartment or house will need to contact the gas service and the organization that is the electricity supplier. In accordance with the owner’s statement, the gas service will turn off the stove, cut the pipes leading to it, install a plug after the tap and seal it. Without fail, the gas operator must draw up an act on the shutdown of the stove and sealing.
Since the installation of an electric stove will create a large load on the network and require more power from it than is usually allocated to an apartment, then going to the power supply will be a mandatory procedure. If the condition of the network in the house is good and it can withstand additional loads, then there will not be any special problems with the installation of a new electrical appliance, permission will be issued.
Turning to the organization of energy supply will need to sign the distinction of balance sheet ownership and operational responsibility. There, the owner of the apartment will be issued a technical plan of the apartment, on which all electrical devices, including a new electric stove, will be marked.
Further, in accordance with the Decree of the Gosstroy of the Russian Federation dated September 27, 2003 No. 170, regarding the norms and rules of technical operation of the housing stock, the owners are obliged to carry out a separate electrical cable and install a special outlet designed to turn on the electric stove.
Gas and electric stove transfer
Changing the location of the stove, whether gas or electric within the same room, our own kitchen, is also treated as a redevelopment and needs to be agreed. Legalization of such actions implies corresponding changes in the technical plan of the apartment. The transfer of a gas stove is a more complicated procedure, as It requires mandatory compliance with the requirements established by SNiPs 42-101-2003 and 42-01-2002.
These rules prohibit:
- install gas devices near walls constructed of flammable or combustible building materials,
- carry main floor gas risers,
- to increase the distance between the shut-off valve and the main gas riser.
Since the distance between the gas stove and the riser is most likely to increase as a result of the transfer, installation of an additional rigid connection must be made - the length of the flexible gas hose should not exceed 1.5 m. Non-compliance with these rules, as well as unauthorized replacement of the gas stove, can lead to liability the owners of the premises.
Less problems will arise during the transfer of the electric stove, however, coordination with the energy supply service will be required - most likely it will be necessary to carry out the transfer of the outlet. However, it is not difficult to get around this point - you can simply lengthen the electric wire of the stove.
Is it possible to replace with a gas electric stove
Just as the owners of gas stoves want to get modern electric appliances for use, those who are forced to use electric stoves want to install gas stoves, the reasons for such changes are sometimes quite compelling. But here it should immediately be stipulated that installation of gas devices is not possible in non-gasified houses. We are not talking about any approvals - in such houses there is no gas distribution system, and the premises themselves often do not meet the norms and requirements stipulated by SNiPs:
- installation of gas appliances is possible only in rooms with a height of more than 2.2 m,
- the premises must have a window or transom,
- they must be equipped with an exhaust ventilation duct,
- the premises should have natural light.
Strict requirements are also imposed on the cubic capacity of the kitchen; to install a stove with 4 burners, it is required that the room volume be at least 15 cubic meters, for 3 burners - 12, and 2 - 8 cubic meters. Although the SNiP with these requirements is not currently valid, the requirements imposed by the gas services have not been particularly modified.
We decided to replace the gas stove with an electric one - save money
Since the initiator of such major changes as replacing the stove is the owner of the house, then the purchase of the stove, the costs of its installation and connection will be paid by him.
Having studied the procedure for replacing a gas stove, you should also think about how much the use of an electric analog will pour out monthly. By an individual agreement with the organization of energy sales, it is possible to obtain reduced electricity tariffs, such as those for residents of non-gasified houses. Electricity bills in this case will be moderate, if the tariffs are not reduced, then the operation of the electric stove will be a pleasant and expensive pleasure.
The best solution - using a combination board
There are a lot of disputes about whether it is worth changing a gas stove to an electric one, experienced people generally recommend not to turn off the gas, but to put in a gas meter, and if you refuse to use gas, you will not need to pay bills for it. But at the first desire, without any problems, it will be possible to switch back to using a gas stove.
Or use a combination cooker. It is just perfect for those who pay for gas on the meter. If desired, you can use gas or electric burners, depending on how quickly you need to cook something or just boil water: on a gas burner this can be done much faster, but the electric heating mode can be adjusted more finely.
Combined stoves can have a different number of gas and electric burners (1x3 or 2x2), different methods of heating the oven can be. Such plates are usually:
- more functional
- equipped with modern control, monitoring and programming systems,
- they have different dimensions and colors,
- they have an attractive design.
