Borders, general information
We all strive for beauty, especially urban residents. Many summer residents seek to create a small piece of green paradise on their site.
We plant beautiful flowers, make beautiful paths. I would like to highlight all this, mark the edges of flower beds, winding paths, etc. For such purposes, borders are used, i.e. low 15-25 cm. fences.
Depending on the imagination, design direction, borders are made of a variety of materials: rods, pegs, bottles (plastic, glass, colored), limestone, brick, concrete, etc.
The service life of such borders is diverse. Depending on the material, some borders can serve for a long time, while other decorative fences are short-lived.
DIY curbs from rods
If your site is located in a forest zone where hazel, willow, etc. grow, the simplest and most affordable for making is a border made of twigs, you can create a garden border in the style of country.
Pre-harvested rods, preferably of the same thickness. For the convenience of work, the rods are soaked in water at night, and then begin to work.
The rods bend and stick into the ground. Such a border looks beautiful when the arcs overlap each other by half the length, thereby creating a decorative, openwork fence.
Red brick border
Often, after construction, a brick remains on the site. The red brick border looks especially beautiful; the construction is simple and economical.
Such a border can indicate the boundaries of flower beds and garden paths. It is necessary to make a shallow groove in which the bricks with the slope are installed, the end face of the brick and part of its edges form a ledge of the corner with the same slope in different directions (45 degrees).
The edges of the paths in the garden can be beautifully limited by red brick, while the curb plane can match the level of the track canvas, the brick can be laid on the end, on the edge and the entire width of the red brick plane.
The last option looks beautiful when fencing a small area, such as a fireplace.
To fix the fence made of bricks, the joints between the bricks must be filled with cement mortar.
DIY curbs made of concrete
The edges of the tracks can be indicated by curbs made of concrete. For this, at a distance of 8-12 cm from the edge of the track, a regular board is installed as a formwork, and if the track changes direction, i.e. it is necessary to emphasize the rounding, put a wooden round timber.
Concrete is poured into the formwork, colored pebbles or glass can be placed on the surface.
After the concrete has hardened, the formwork is removed and you get your individual border.
Flat Lime Borders
To designate flower beds, it is good to use flat limestone. Stones of various sizes are selected, usually laid out in three layers.
Moreover, the widest stones are laid on the lower layer.
The second layer is laid on top, overlapping the seams, and then the third layer is laid, while the seams are also shifted (i.e., the stones are half shifted relative to each other).
Such a decorative fence is usually not fastened with anything, it looks modern and stylish.
Fences, general information
Fences of any design include a number of different functions: they must fix the boundaries of the site, must prevent animals from entering the site.
And of course, the fence should be a decorative element of the garden plot, be in harmony with the buildings and at the same time should not prevent the sun from illuminating not only its own, but also the neighboring plot.
When installing fencing, you need to strive not only for the decorative perception of the site visually, but the fence on the site should create a microclimate of the garden, i.e. it is good to install fences not only around the perimeter of the site, but also to create fences inside the site, thereby highlighting recreation areas, a barbecue area, a playground, etc.
Pillars - load-bearing element of the fence
The classic version of the fence consists of pillars (racks) and crates.
Pillars - the main bearing element of the fence.
They can be made of wood, metal and asbestos-cement pipes, concrete, brick, etc.
For the manufacture of metal elements of the fence, it is good to have at hand materials and structures made using a press brake, electric welding, grinder. These tools will help you create a beautiful fence and realize all your ideas. These tools will come in handy in the future.
DIY concrete pillars
Concrete pillars of square or rectangular, triangular sections, it is easy to make yourself. The formwork is prepared from boards, the length of which depends on the desired height of the column above the ground, plus 0.5 meters of the column for deepening into the ground.
The width of the cross-section of the column at your discretion is laid in the formwork.
The formwork is covered with plastic wrap to facilitate the removal of pillars from the formwork.
A solution is prepared from cement M-500, plus sand in a ratio of 1: 3, 2-3 parts of crushed stone or pebbles are added.
With prepared concrete, the formwork is filled. To strengthen the strength of the column, pieces of reinforcement are laid inside.
It is necessary to provide for the installation of two brackets or pins on the post to secure the crate.
The ends of the formwork are closed with a removable board.
Brick Pillars, Pillars of Blocks
Brick pillars or pillars of blocks are arranged on a previously prepared foundation or on an elevated basement. The foundation is made depending on the degree of heaving of the soil during freezing.
After the foundation gains strength, masonry for brick pillars is made on it or blocks are laid. All this is done with cement mortar.
To enhance the stability of the column, it is good to lay the reinforcement hammered into the foundation inside the masonry.
Fencing
The fence lathing can be made of various materials: metal or plastic mesh, wooden planks, rods, from type-setting metal elements, forged lathing.
The crate is made from 2 to 3 meters in size and fills the space between the posts.
Currently, a crate made of non-ferrous metal profiles and of plastic and metal mesh is widely used.
Such a fence looks quite aesthetically pleasing and durable. The metal profile is rigidly fastened with self-tapping screws to horizontal profile pipes or a corner that are mounted in poles.
The grid is installed in two ways: in the frame and on the supporting wires stretched on top and bottom.
5-6mm diameter wire. pass through the extreme cells, together with the grid, stretch to its entire length and fasten with pins or hooks to the posts.
Installation of grids in a frame
The mesh in the frame is set for certain fragments of the fence.
A frame from a metal corner or a profile pipe is prepared in advance.
A mesh is prepared according to the size of the frame, it is framed with wire on all sides, the wire is welded with a spot seam to the vertical side of the frame, the mesh is pulled and the wire is welded on the opposite side of the frame.
In the same way, the upper and lower edges are fixed.
Wooden crate
The wooden crate is made in different ways, but the presence of the upper and lower crossbars is an obligatory element.
The elements of the crate are nailed to these crossbars.
The picket fence looks beautiful, it is installed vertically with a gap between the planks equal to the width of the picket.
On the outside of the picket, from above and below, at the level of the crossbars, the pads are beaten, they protect the picket from tearing off and give a beautiful look.
The wooden crate looks beautiful with diagonal nailed plates, holes are created in the form of a rhombus.
If you want to protect your garden from prying eyes, install solid wood crates.
Barbed wire fence
In the presence of a huge site, sometimes fences are made of barbed wire.
And although the appearance of such a fence is a little aesthetic, due to the need to protect against unauthorized persons from entering the site, such a fence takes place.
To install such a fence, metal racks are used, from the inside of the site, 4-5 hooks are welded to them, along the height of the column.
At least two people in canvas gloves should participate in the work.
A pipe is inserted into a bay with barbed wire.
To prevent injuries on each side of the bay, round plywood shields are put on the pipe.
The end of the wire, which is usually hidden in the hole of the bay, is removed, fixed with a peg on the ground and the bay is carried on the pipe to the desired distance.
The coil rotates from the tension of the wire, the barbed wire is unwound.
The wire is attached to the lower hooks and pulled.
The barbed wire is laid diagonally on the posts, from the top hook of the first post to the bottom hook of the second post, etc.
The hooks then bend.
