Gas meter, select a gas meter, install gas meters
For the correct and accurate accounting of used gas in domestic conditions, a global replacement or installation of new, more advanced devices, metering devices is carried out. Installation of the device is carried out on a gas pipe, it guarantees the fixation of accurate data and significant savings, both of the natural resource and the financial resources of the homeowner.

Gas meters in the apartment, how to make the right choice
Today there are several types of gas meters:
- membrane
- turbine
- rotational
- vortex flowmeters.
In order to pay only for the actually consumed fuel in the house, you will definitely need a gas meter, which one to choose - a question that always arises before the homeowners. The choice of a certain type of meter lies entirely with the owner and depends on desire and financial capabilities.
Often, gas farms install membrane measuring instruments. An elastic membrane is located inside such a counter. Driven by a special mechanism, it measures the amount of gas used. The main advantages of meters with such a system include:
- elementary design
- durability
- minimum measurement error.
The most accurate readings are famous for meters that have built-in control sensors, such measuring devices are called electronic. But it is worth noting that devices of this kind have a category G -1.6, their face value is from 1.6 to 2.5. From this we can conclude: they are not suitable for installation in private homes and residential premises, that is, in places where the amount of gas consumed is high.
Any of the meters is equipped with a unique mark, the value of which indicates its minimum measuring throughput, that is, its nominal value (i.e. the ability to take into account the flow rate of a certain amount of gas per unit time). For instance:
- marking G-1,6 has a face value of 1.6 to 2.5 cubic meters of gas,
- g-2.5 marking corresponds to a nominal value of 2.5 - 4 cubic meters,
- G4 stands for 4 to 6 cubic meters and the like.
Today on sale you can find measuring devices with the following markings: 3.4-6-10 cubic meters per hour. The marking and type of the desired device are determined by the number of household appliances consuming gas.

Today, on sale you can find counters of both imported and domestic production. They differ among themselves and cost and principles of action. In order to make the right choice of meter for use in domestic conditions, it is necessary to take into account the number of gas consumer devices and the maximum value of its consumption. After calculating the amount of consumed gas consumed in a particular room (column, boiler for heating, a gas stove), you can easily choose the right appliance.
The following data will help in the calculation:
- a stove with 4 burners consumes 1.5 sq.m / hour
- household boiler - 1.8 sq.m / hour
- column - 2.5 sq. m / hour.
But for more confidence in the accuracy of the indicators, you should familiarize yourself with the passport data for gas equipment or get a detailed explanation of specialists directly related to this issue.
For a consumer who uses only a gas stove, it is necessary to purchase and install a G-1.6 counter. For housing equipped with a gas stove and geyser, the installation of a G-2.5 counter is required. For a home in which heating is a gas boiler and in which several more gas appliances are used, a meter labeled G-4 is suitable. In any case, the final choice of the type of meter, it is better to coordinate with a gas worker with a certain qualification and experience.
Installation of gas meters
Master installation of the device for metering gas consumption is the key to safety and proper use of the device.
Given the location of the gas appliance and the pipes connected to it, you need to choose a left or right meter. Basically, all manufacturers of this product offer both types of devices. Therefore, with the choice of the necessary model, problems should not arise.
Installation of metering devices must be carried out by specialists who have special permission for this. In addition, after installation, each device is registered in the gas industry, whose employees regularly inspect it and carefully monitor the readings.
In principle, the meter can be considered durable equipment, but there are certain points that can disable it. The main ones are:
- the absence of a filter in the device that prevents the penetration of dust and small impurities
- deformed filter design
- exceeded humidity of the supplied gas
- increase device throughput
- not professionally performed installation work.
To avoid problems of this kind, experts advise you to buy goods only from well-established manufacturing companies (not only within our country, but beyond its borders), and also trust the installation of the device only to professionals.
Advanced Models
Some time ago, meters began to appear on sale with a special additional function of thermal correction. The development of this function was carried out due to the fact that the gas from the change in temperature has the property to change its density. Until this time, the calculation of the temperature coefficient was carried out by special organizations for issuing invoices for payment for the provided gas supply service. Thermally corrected devices can take into account its temperature in parallel with the gas volume used. The cost of a gas meter of such a sample is an order of magnitude higher than the cost of previously released models.
To date, setting a goal, you can purchase any model of the device for metering gas consumption. The main thing is to approach the choice with maximum responsibility and understanding the importance of this purchase.
