Mirror in the interior of a modern apartment, as a mirror or mirror wall changes the interior
The mirrors that we used to see in the house differ in many ways. They can be made using aluminum amalgam or silver. They have a difference in cost (aluminum ones are much cheaper) and in quality - a silver amalgam allows you to get an almost perfect display that does not give distortions, such mirrors have higher technical characteristics, it is recommended that they be placed in rooms with increased humidity and large temperature differences, for example, in the bathroom.

Functional Mirrors
In an apartment, at least one functional mirror should be located in such a way that the highest member of the family can see itself in it. It is recommended to place it at a height of 2 to 1.7 m from the floor, while the surface height should not be less than 1.3 m. The height of the reflecting surface should be at least 0.5 - 0.8 m to obtain a waist-high display . To obtain a display of a sitting position, the mirror is located at a height of about 1.2 m from the floor.
Mirrors are usually placed on the walls, on the floor, they can be built in furniture. Reflective surfaces bearing a functional load are placed on the walls or doors of dressing cabinets, near dressing tables, in the bathroom. Rather, for decorative purposes, they are installed in cupboards for dishes and books.
But with the right arrangement of mirrors in the room, you can achieve amazing visual effects.
Mirrors in the interior - a great way to visually enlarge the room
Properly integrated reflective surface in the interior is an excellent way to create the illusion of a higher ceiling (using an oval mirror stretched upwards) or apart walls (the same reflective surface is installed horizontally). To increase the size of the room, use the installation of a mirror wall on the side of the room opposite from the window. In this case, the panels should be used as large as possible, the level of joints should be located above eye level - in this case, they will practically not be visible.
A mirror in the interior of the living room located in the darkest corner will contribute to its better lighting, the room will become less gloomy. If the frame for it is made in the form of a window binding, then its appearance will very much resemble a real window. You can decorate it with climbing plants - a vineyard or ivy.
When looking at the mirrors in the interior in the photo, many people find it very attractive to hide the doors to the next room behind them: the door is sliding, its surface and the surface of the wall are faced with mirror tiles. Of course, such a room looks more spacious. To separate a real wall from the space displayed in it, you can place a beautiful floor vase or floor lamp, table next to it.
But designers do not recommend much getting involved in wall cladding with mirror tiles: you can use them on a maximum of one wall. The effect of space, of course, can be amazing, but at the same time the room will become cold and not comfortable. A mirrored ceiling will be a good addition to such a wall, but it’s also worthwhile to do the same - mark the finish best with fragments - separate rectangles or rhombuses, a strip around the perimeter, staggered tiles. You can use fragments with reflective surfaces on the floor, for example - around the perimeter of the room. The light reflected from them will give the room a special cosiness and festivity.
What adjustments can be made to the interior with the help of mirror walls
Get a very unusual design will allow the construction of mirrored niches in the room. In this case, it is more rational to use faceted mirrors in the interior - they will allow you to get three-dimensional space in the plane of the wall. The fixtures located in niches look amazingly beautiful - they fill the entire space with glare, and faceted or facet inserts give the glare a rainbow.
Mirrors in the hallway interior will help to create the effect of infinite space: they should be placed on opposite walls, and lamps should be placed near them. The endless repetition of reflected surfaces will create the effect of extended space. Similarly, you can do with the floor surface and ceiling. For the decor of the floor, polished metal plates are used. You should not be afraid that the false mirror ceilings will visually reduce the height of the walls - with a real decrease (by about 10 cm), the hallway will seem much higher.
Mirrors in the bathroom interior
Usually, one or a couple of functional surfaces are placed in the bathroom, near which they shave, comb the hair after washing, and perform cosmetic procedures. But modern designers offer to be bolder and make changes to the interior of the bathroom by decorating the walls with mirror tiles.
But the condition for a comfortable stay in the room will be the decoration of a limited space: one wall or a separate panel within it. The dark ceramic tiles surrounding it emphasize the beautiful appearance of the reflective surface.
Some useful tips
Using large mirrors in the interior of the apartment you should use the tips of experienced professionals: not only the placement of mirror surfaces, but also the location of furniture or decor near them is important.
- A large bright vase can be placed on a mirror table in the corner farthest from the door - an increased perspective will significantly increase the room.
- If beautiful antique items, figurines or vases are inserted on open shelves, then mirrors should be placed behind them - this will enhance the impression of the objects being monitored and allow them to be examined better.
- A significant increase in the volume of the room will be facilitated by a reflective surface mounted diagonally from the direction of the walls.
- A reflecting surface located on a dark background will create a window effect, on a light one - visually expand the space.
Equally important is the location of the mirrors.
Mirrors and style
In most cases, the mirrors installed in the apartment can still be classified as functional. But you should definitely choose them, given the general style in which the room is decorated. Designers also offer to postpone their purchase to the very last stage of the execution of design work and use them to give the interior a complete look.
Mirrors in the interior should be in tune with him in style:
- for a classic style, models of a strict, symmetrical shape are suitable
- empire will require a gilded rim and rich carved trim
- a round shape will be acceptable for baroque, intricate and elaborate for rococo, with carved wooden or bronze cast frames, possibly with gilding
- curved lines remain relevant for the Art Nouveau style, but the frames are made of expensive wood, carved; instead of gilding, transparent varnishes are used to emphasize the beauty of wood.
