Buleryan stoves for a bath, how to choose the right, useful tips
Judging by the original design of the Buleryan furnace, it can be assumed that quite experienced engineers came up with it. And the argument that this is an invention of the Canadian laborers is most likely a myth. The history of buleryan begins with Canada, where it was invented for heating cabins of forest cutters in harsh winter conditions. Correcting the operation of this unit does not require special skills. A person who has undergone initial training will fully cope with its maintenance. This type of heating device is high-tech, does not contain electrical connections (this is not unimportant when working in harsh climatic conditions) and automatic elements, its base consists of inexpensive alloys, and accordingly, its price is not high.

A little history and advantages of the furnace
Woodcutters roaming the harsh taiga needed heating equipment that could warm the cabins in a very short period of time. In addition, the furnace should be portable and light, the fuel used in it should not have a high cost. It is all these special requirements that were embodied in the design of Buleryan furnaces:
- they are able to warm a room with a volume of 25-30 cubic meters in 20 minutes,
- furnace can be heated with branches, wood chips, snags, peat or briquettes,
- on one tab of fuel the furnace can work for about 8 hours, i.e. the owners may not bother with constant monitoring of the presence of firewood in the furnace,
- when the weather changes, the furnace power can be adjusted.
The manufacture of the furnace does not require the use of expensive materials and complex components - it can be made by specialists working in any mechanical workshop.
In operation, Buleryan furnaces show themselves as devices that are very reliable in terms of safety:
- in any operating mode they do not form carbon monoxide,
- the outer side of the furnace body has a temperature of no higher than 60-70 degrees - accidental contact with the furnace will not cause serious burns.
Buleryan wood-burning stove, its structure, principle of operation
It is not difficult to understand how this type of aggregates work; they incorporate the principle of controlled combustion, based on the fact that the process of burning fuel occurs in unique conditions, without free access of oxygen. Controlled air flow contributes to the gas generation process. The carbon dioxide released in this case burns out in the secondary afterburner. An important point is the correct adjustment of the air damper - it allows to achieve a significant increase in the efficiency of the stove.
The design of the Buleryan furnace does not provide for the possibility of embedding a circuit for water circulation. The room is heated due to the circulation of air masses in the steel pipes that surround the combustion chamber. Air circulation leads to an arbitrary flow of chilled air located at the bottom of the room and its exit, already warmed up enough, through the air ducts, i.e. convection process takes place.
The greatest effect of using such a unit is when heating a large room without internal partitions. To get high-quality heating of several rooms in the bath house, an additional installation of devices for the forced circulation of hot air between the rooms will be required.
When installing such stoves in houses built of wood, in particular in bath houses, it is imperative that all fire safety rules are observed.
Exploring the classic design of the Buleryan furnace, it should be noted that it is not suitable for heating bath stones. Therefore, with all the advantages, such stoves are installed to heat all rooms of the bath house, except the steam room. The installation of this type of furnace does not require the construction of an additional ventilation system. The presence of a control system for the combustion process allows you to perform the optimal setting in terms of economy and purity.
It is best to consult a specialist to lay the air ducts and install the discharge equipment correctly. It should be remembered that only the fulfillment of each of the installation conditions can ensure trouble-free operation of heating equipment.
Buleryan furnaces for a bath
A special type of Buleryan furnace, designed for installation in a steam room, has an original modified housing design: its upper part contains a pallet for laying stones and a removable tank for heating water. For more active heating of stones, an exit of the chimney pipe from the compartment designed to accommodate these thermal batteries is provided.
The Buleryan sauna stove can be operated in two modes: Russian bath and sauna. To switch to another operating mode, you will need to use the mode switch located near the door to load fuel.
When switching to the sauna position, the valve will be removed and will provide fresh air through the blower to the compartment with hot stones, the air will warm up and dry, it will get into the steam room in the form of dry heat.
When switching to a Russian bath, the valve will close the compartment with stones, the room will be heated only with cobblestones located in the upper rows. To get wet steam, stones located near the chimney are poured from a special bucket with a long handle - they have the highest temperature.
The Buleryan sauna stove is also equipped with:
- a wooden restraint designed to protect people from inadvertently touching hot stones,
- a thirty-liter stainless steel water tank.
Buleryan sauna stoves work on paper and wood waste, peat or briquettes, and firewood. Experts do not recommend using coal or oak wood as fuel - from them the firebox may burn out.
The ideal temperature in the bath is reached 50 minutes after ignition.
The furnace capacity may be as follows:
- small buleryan - used for steam cubic up to 15 m3, stones can be loaded into it 75 kg, unit weight - 95 kg,
- big buleryan - installed in rooms up to 25 cubic meters, the weight of the loaded stones is 100 kg, the weight of the furnace is 120 kg.
Installation rules and fire safety requirements
There are no special requirements for the installation of the heating unit, and therefore there are no recommendations for its implementation. You will need to choose a suitable place and connect the stove to the smoke exhaust system.
If we talk about the rules of installation in a bath house (or living room), it should be remembered that installation will necessarily require a refractory base, for example, metal.
The recommended chimney height is more than 3 m, this rule must be observed.
To increase the efficiency of work, it will be necessary to connect the ducts and the outlets of the furnace convectors.
The main task during installation is to comply with all fire safety standards. The recommended distance from the wall to the casing is more than 1 m, or 0.8 m, if the wall is covered with a thick layer of plaster. There should be a free space of less than 1.2 m deep in front of the stove.
If the furnace is installed in the wall, then it will be necessary to cover the edges of the span with a metal sheet or finish it with brick.
The furnace should be melted with wood chips or paper located in the furnace, while the blower should be pulled out by 1.5 cm to create traction, when the chips burn into the chamber, a portion of firewood is loaded, the door is tightly covered.
Buleryan stove in the interior of the bath house
If the size of the relaxation room in the bath house allows, then the installation can be performed in a specially constructed portal for it. In appearance, it may look like a conventional oven. In this case, special bricks can be used as a finishing material. When decorating with brick, one should remember the need to ensure the flow of air to the unit.
Dressing is done not only with the aim of increasing the attractiveness of the heating device, but also wishing to increase the safety of people visiting the bathhouse.
DIY Buleryan stoves
In principle, it will be easier to purchase buleryan. It is possible to buy ready-made Buleryan furnaces for relatively little money - 200 - 250 dollars. In cases where it is possible to work with a machine that allows you to make the necessary details, the availability of a sufficient amount of time and certain starting materials - the production of this type of stove with your own hands is quite cost-effective and justified. For its manufacture, you can use metal of any quality, the total cost in this case will be significantly reduced.
