Natural linoleum
Natural linoleum is made from linseed oil, wood flour, chalk and pine resin. This coating is durable, high quality and suitable for any room in the house.
Natural linoleum is environmentally friendly, hygienic, not afraid of an undamped cigarette.
It’s good to lay such a lenolium in the nursery for a boy. Boys often solder, glue - these materials can get on the floor. Natural Lenolium can withstand all this.
This coating is resistant to abrasion, oils, fats and resins.
It is better to entrust the laying of such a coating to professionals, since this process requires special skills, and natural linoleum is expensive material compared to artificial linoleum.
Artificial linoleum
Artificial, PVC - linoleum under normal operating conditions, is also safe from an environmental point of view, has excellent heat and sound insulation characteristics.
PVC linoleum is available on various bases: fabric or non-woven, on foamed PVC, it can be without a main, single-layer and multi-layer.
In linoleum without a substrate, the pattern is placed between the base of PVC and the transparent protective layer also of PVC.
Accordingly, the thicker the protective layer, the higher the wear resistance.
Linoleum with a backing, usually has a backing made of foamed PVC.
The underlay makes the floor warmer and more pleasant for walking.
Vinyl carpets are made in a combination of carpet and linoleum.
Such carpets have a velvety nylon pile, which is fixed in a waterproof PVC base. Vinyl carpet is often laid in kitchens, since any dirt that gets on it can be easily removed with water and a mild detergent.
Household linoleum
PVC coating is divided into three types, one of which is household. Household linoleum has a thickness of 1 to 3 mm., A protective layer from 0.1 to 0.35 mm., A relatively small mass from 1 to 2.25 kilograms per square meter.
The roll usually has a standard width of 1.5 to 4 meters. The cost of household linoleum is relatively low, up to 350 rubles per square meter.
Semi-commercial linoleum
The second type of linoleum is semi-commercial, since the thickness of the protective layer is more - 0.5 -., 6 mm, it is somewhat stronger than the bot, and its weight is more solid - from 1.5 to 2.6 kg per square meter, and this means it is denser.
Semi-commercial linoleum is produced in rolls, 2-4 meters wide, the cost is twice as expensive as household.
Commercial linoleum
Commercial linoleum is the third type of coating, with increased wear resistance, heavier - 2.8 kg. per square meter.
Available for use in rooms with high traffic. The cost is 2 times more expensive than semi-commercial linoleum.
Calculation of linoleum consumption
The standard width of a roll of a household variety is from 1.5 to 4 meters, the length of linoleum in a roll is from 12 to 27 meters.
Having made simple calculations in advance, it is necessary to find out exactly how much linoleum of a certain width will be required for a particular room.
Usually they get a canvas width that is a multiple of the width of the room. Ideally, if the fabric does not have to be cut at all when fitting.
If the configuration of the room is complex, has non-standard sizes, you can ask to cut the cover in the store.
If linoleum has a pattern, add 10-15% of the material to fit.
Floor preparation for linoleum
The base for linoleum should be solid, preferably perfectly flat and dry. In the presence of cracks and irregularities, it is necessary to make a cement screed, putty or bulk floor.
If the floor is wooden, nail all boards that are loose.
The wooden floor of the lower floor should have ventilation from below.
Do not lay linoleum on boards that have recently been treated with an antiseptic.
After repairing a wooden or cement floor, it needs to be sanded and vacuumed.
If linoleum will be laid on a warm floor, then the heating system should be turned on about a month before laying linoleum, and a day before laying it must be turned off.
Coating is laid using glue, cold welding and hot welding using a welding cord. The last method is usually laid commercial linoleums.
Fit and cut linoleum
Laying a continuous coating in one piece begins with the length of the wall.
Move the edge of linoleum about 35 mm from the wall.
Using a thicknesser, draw a line that repeats the skirting line.
Using scissors or a knife, cut the coating and slide it onto the wall, make a triangular cutout in each corner so that the entire sheet lies as flat as possible.
At external corners, make a straight cut to the floor, cut the waste as much as possible, leaving 50-70 mm. material wrapped up around the perimeter.
Using a stone chisel, press the coating into the corner between the skirting board and the floor, attach a steel ruler to this crease and cut the coating by drawing a sharp knife along it with a slight inclination towards the skirting board.
When fitting to the doorway, bend the linoleum from the floor, make straight cuts along the edges of the opening, cut off the excess and close the edge with a bar.
Glue linoleum flooring
After preliminary preparation of linoleum, its cutting and cutting, special glue (PVC or dispersed universal) is applied to one half of the coating and then proceed according to the instructions applied to the glue.
Usually you need to stand for about 10 minutes and then press the canvas to the floor. Do the same with the second half.
After a day, you can start welding the seams.
After the glue has completely dried, the baseboard is installed.
Docking pieces of linoleum
When joining pieces of linoleum, lay the edge of one of the pieces on the surface of the other so that the pattern of both pieces is integral.
Both pieces must be cut with a knife at the same time and the waste removed.
Then, without moving the pieces, bend both cut edges, place tape or glue and press the joint to the floor.
Cold welding of linoleum
During cold welding, after fitting the pattern, the canvases are joined, trimmed and glued with adhesive tape along the entire length of the joint.
A tube with special glue is taken, the sharp edge of the tube is inserted into the seam, move it, while the adhesive tape is cut.
After the glue has hardened, the adhesive tape is removed.
Hot welding linoleum
Hot welding is called because the connection of pieces of linoleum is carried out using a special heating apparatus.
Linoleum welding should be done by a specialist who first cuts a groove for the cord, and then welds a welding cord into this seam using a heating device.
So roughly the process of hot welding of commercial linoleums takes place.
Laying linoleum around curved objects
In order to lay the cover around the toilet bowl or sink, bend the material, pierce it directly with the knife and cut it up to the edge.
Around the base, make triangular cuts until the coating lies flat, bend and cut the waste.
How is homogeneous linoleum different from heterogeneous linoleum
Homogeneous linoleum is a homogeneous material without a base, it is thin, but because of its monolithic structure it is extremely durable, it is stained in bulk.
It is used in areas with high traffic, in hallways and halls.
A heterogeneous material, in contrast to a homogeneous linoleum, has several layers.
The top layer usually consists of a protective layer of pure PVC, has a transparent and wear-resistant decorative layer, a PVC layer, a flexible, solid base - fiberglass and a lower, foamed PVC layer.
