Decking - terrace board in landscape design
We all strive for beauty.
The landscape composition of country houses and summer cottages is especially pleasing to the eye.
The beauty is created by a paved area, walkway, covered patios, bridges, walkways and floorings around the pool and garden pond.
Equipping the site using various materials, both natural and artificial.
Modern technologies make it possible to produce artificial stone identical to natural.
Clinker and ceramic tiles, all kinds of sand and gravel backfill are widely used.
But a special chic is a wooden coating in the form of terrace boards and recently, the demand for decking or road lumber has been steadily increasing.
Given current trends, manufacturers not only increase decking output, but also constantly offer new types of their products.
What happens deking
The word deking comes from the English word and in translation means a wooden flooring or deck.
In its modern form, decking involves a variety of materials.
The very first you can designate a terrace board.
The terrace board is a thick corrugated board.
The board of coniferous or hard hardwood, sometimes certain mahogany, is specially processed.
After processing, the wood becomes an ideal material for outdoor use.
The second material is garden parquet.
Garden parquet is a set of short, narrow and smooth planks.
The third type includes the flooring of a wood-polymer composite (WPC).
Wood-polymer composite externally completely imitates a terrace board.
All of the above material or decking is designed specifically for outdoor installation, as this material is resistant to mechanical, atmospheric and biological effects.
We are used to the fact that a tree quickly loses all its properties in contact with precipitation.
Decking is the exact opposite of our concept of rotting wood.
Decking coating allows you to wash it with water from a hose, rub it with a brush, and use non-aggressive detergents.
Terrace board is used in the design of the pier and pier, and not only in fresh water, but also at sea.
High-quality, correctly mounted decking can serve more than one decade.
What tree is decking made of?
Larch, oak, beech and ash are widely used in decking.
In the most adverse conditions, an exotic terrace board made of teak, kumaru, kempas, yatype, ip - decking of these types of wood has a very high density, hardness, and resistance to decay.
The Russian climate has its own peculiarities, in our conditions deking ipe works best.
The flooring made of this tree allows you to preserve its properties at high humidity, with large temperature differences.
Decking IPE contains a large number of antiseptic resins, so IPE flooring does not deform, does not change size, does not rot.
Decking IPE does not require additional application of protective compounds.
This tree perfectly tolerates ultraviolet exposure, does not turn gray.
But, it should be noted that this wood is very difficult to saw, it is difficult to grind and drill.
Dealing with IPE decking can only be entrusted to professionals with special tools.
Naturally, such work costs a lot of money, but these floors also last a very long time.
Special wood treatment
To produce terrace boardfrom wood of local species, this wood is specially treated with chemicals at high temperature.
Inexpensive pine and larch are impregnated with a potent antiseptic under pressure and using a special technology.
The boards, after this treatment, are forced dried at low temperature.
The board processed in this way has increased strength, hardness, does not warp and does not crack.
Noble species of wood, such as: oak, hornbeam, beech and ash, are treated with hot steam at a temperature of 250 * C.
At the exit from such a chamber, the wood receives a high density, geometric stability, practically does not absorb water, has the ability to dry quickly.
In addition, after such heat treatment, in such a tree there is no food for a wood-bug, bacteria and fungi.
Wood-polymer composite
Decking is produced not only from natural wood, but also from small sawdust, from recycled PVC products, from polypropylene and polyethylene.
Adding modifiers and coloring pigments to this raw material, a composite decking or wood-polymer composite is obtained.
The wood-polymer composite board inside has a hollow box, which is divided by stiffeners into compartments.
The wood-polymer composite has a thickness of floorboards of 25-30 mm, a width of 100-150 mm and a length of up to 6 meters.
A square meter of such a flooring from a wood-polymer board can withstand up to 500 kg. cargo.
KDP floorboards have proven themselves in various climatic zones: in the Arctic cold, in tropical heat, with an icy wind with rain, when exposed to salt surf.
It is almost impossible to distinguish a high-quality expensive composite from natural wood, while the planks fit perfectly together and form an ideal coating.
Preparation for installation
Proceeding to the installation of decking, it is necessary to properly prepare the base.
The site prepared for decking is leveled, covered with sand and gravel.
To drain rain and melt water, the base is given a slope.
After preparing the base site, the garden parquet is laid, which is fixed in the rubber sections.
If a terrace board is laid, it is laid on pre-installed lags.
If terraces are being built, concrete or stone slabs are placed under the adjustable supports.
If the soil is moist or marshy, a columnar foundation is laid.
At present, screw steel piles are widely used, i.e. pipes, to the lower ends of which, blades are welded.
To form the foundation, these piles are screwed into the ground (usually by hand).
A beam of rolled steel, a wooden beam or reinforced concrete is laid on top of these piles. A terrace board is already attached to them.
Deck Mounting
Terrace flooring is attached to pre-laid wooden blocks.
There is an open and closed way to fix the terrace board.
With the open method, the boards are screwed with stainless steel screws with a diameter of 5 mm, the length of the screw is 70 mm.
The hats of the screws are recessed into the tree, they are sealed with caps, corks, then everything is putty.
The closed installation method uses special clips, while the appearance of the coating does not deteriorate, and then it is perfectly processed.
For easy leveling of the flooring, to give it the required slope - adjustable supports made of alloyed and stainless steel are used, high-strength and durable rubber is used.
Terrace board finish
Composite decking does not need to be specially impregnated or painted. wooden decking is necessarily varnished or impregnated with special oil.
The terrace board, even before installation, is treated on two sides with two or three layers of yacht varnish.
The coating is updated after three to four years, before work, the old varnish is cleaned.
If the treatment is done with oil, it is better to renew such protection after a year.
Ceramic decking - an alternative to wood
Recently there was a terrace board and ceramic garden parquet. The shape and design resembles a wood-polymer product, i.e. there is a cavity with partitions.
By design, it is very difficult to distinguish from natural wood.
Such ceramic decking is placed on adjustable supports, the kit includes not only floorboards, but also drainage, curbs and other components.
