For many city dwellers, the fireplace in the living room seems like a pipe dream - building a real hearth in the apartment is not possible - there will be a lot of problems that are almost impossible to cope with. Real wood fireplaces were usually built by owners of private houses and cottages. But the desire to give attractiveness and comfort to the interior, to add aristocratic notes to it, has led to the spread of fashion to false fireplaces. It’s not at all difficult to make such a fireplace out of drywall with your own hands, there are quite a bit of handling skills with the simplest construction tools.

What materials and tools will be needed

As we have already mentioned, the cheapest and most affordable material for the construction of a hearth is drywall. This material is easy to process, even an inexperienced person can handle it - drywall is very easy to cut, this will give the building any configuration. Costs can be minimized if unnecessary pieces of material remain after the repair - they are quite useful for creating a drywall from a fireplace. It is not recommended to use ceiling plasterboard for work.

For work you will need to buy:

• fixing materials
• profile,
• putty
• decoration Materials.

Many of the necessary tools can be found at home:

• plumb
• pencil and ruler
• spatulas and brushes,
• scissors for metal,
• level.

If there is no screwdriver and puncher, then they can be borrowed for a couple of days from neighbors or friends.

Installation work

Naturally, the first thing you need to find a place to place a fireplace. It is advisable to choose it on that wall, which is never illuminated by sunlight. You will also need to determine the dimensions of the future hearth, decor elements that you will use. Decide on the size and type of electric furnace that you will install. Next - you can give free rein to your imagination and think about how the fireplace will look, then - make a drawing of the fireplace from drywall.

To build a portal for a fireplace from drywall, you will need to make a frame from the profile and securely attach it to the wall. First, with a simple pencil, make markings directly on the wall, while it is recommended to strictly observe the levels. Work begins with the construction of a podium on which the hearth will be located. It can be made from the same drywall, and as a cladding use a beautiful facing clinker or tile.

To strengthen the frame, in height and width of the structure, we mount cross-members from the profile. Particular attention to the rigidity of the structure is recommended to be given if stones, artificial or natural, tiles, tiles will be used as finishing materials.

Do not forget that in the middle of your hearth there will be an electric fireplace, it should quietly go into the opening constructed from the profile. Before installing the sheathing, it is necessary to lay the wiring cables.

Installation of gypsum plasterboard cladding is carried out using self-tapping screws 25 mm long with fine thread.
Upon completion of installation - we impregnate the surface of the drywall with a primer, putty it. To prevent the destruction of corners should be strengthened with a perforated corner profile.

We carry out finishing work

Next, you can proceed to the most creative stage of work - the installation of finishing materials. If the fireplace will be painted, then special attention should be paid to the quality of the putty. You can use the usual finish, or use the fashionable Venetian plaster. If desired, you can apply special technologies for applying putty, which result in surfaces that imitate natural stone or brick. After drying, we paint the plaster with acrylic or water-based paints.

A more expensive option will be facing the fireplace with stone, ceramic tiles, mosaics. You can give a fireplace a unique look by tiling it with tiles very similar to those used in antiquity. A mosaic purchased or made with one's own hand will look beautiful.

Masters advise not to use cement mortars when installing stone or tile - it is best to pay attention to glue with increased adhesion. It should not be forgotten that the use of an electric fireplace as a firebox will require mandatory thermal insulation of the inner surface of the portal. As thermal insulation, you can use mineral wool.

An original decoration of the living room will also be a corner drywall fireplace. It will be a good solution for a room of a small area - with a small size it will not lose its decorativeness, but it will emphasize the coziness and comfort of the room. There is an opinion that it is the corner fireplace that is the most convenient and practical.

Some helpful suggestions

• If for some reason you do not want to stir an electric firebox in the portal, then to give the focus of attractiveness you should fill it with decorative elements - beautiful logs (you can use plastic dummies), decorative candles, place fireplace accessories next to it, all this will create an illusion, that the focus is constantly used.
• Looking at the drywall fireplaces in the photo, you can see that an excellent effect is achieved by placing lighting in the fireplace. You can use LED cords and spotlights as a backlight. They add a special charm and comfort to the outfit sitting area.
• A coffee table and bizarre chairs look great against the background of the fireplace. A stunning effect can be obtained by spreading a fur carpet imitating animal skin in front of the fireplace.
