Methods for laying laminate flooring: types
Laminate very accessible at the moment, a material that allows you to create a fairly durable, beautiful and original coating of the floor, walls, and sometimes the ceiling, moreover, do it quickly enough, without unnecessary costs and with your own hands!
Due to the simplicity of laying the laminate and the possibility of its reuse (you can always disassemble the floor from the laminate and replace or remodel something in it), people were not afraid to experiment and greatly expanded the options and methods of laying the laminate. The producers of this flooring only encouraged the imagination of potential customers by creating a variety of sizes, textures, colors of lamellas, improved methods of their connection (locks, such as a spike groove, adhesive joint).
But, with all the variety of options for laying the laminate on the floor or other surfaces and the effects it creates, there are three main types of laying laminate:
- laying the laminate along a wide wall: most often with this laying, the lamellas are perpendicular to the window. Visually, this way of laying the laminate lengthens and narrows the room.
- laying the laminate along a narrow wall (parallel to the window). This method of laying lamellas helps to make the room space, as it feels, wider or shorten it.
With the correct use of these methods of laying lamellas for a specific space of a floor or wall, you can create the impression of a room of perfectly correct shape, tending to a square.
By the way, you can create the effect of diagonal laying of a laminate even when using conventional laying of a laminate in a straight line, using a laminate of several colors.
- laying the laminate on the diagonal: the most versatile, but, according to the mistaken opinion of many, a complex and costly way of laying the laminate, which allows, visually, how to lengthen and shorten, expand or narrow the room of an irregular shape, creating a feeling of additional comfort. And it is about this method of laying the laminate that we will tell in more detail.
Laying the laminate diagonally: preparation
What you need to know before laying a laminate diagonally?
1. On the diagonal, you can put absolutely any laminate and in absolutely any room. If you had experience laying the laminate in a straight line, then you can handle the diagonal laying too!
2. The method of masonry, as when laying the laminate in a straight line: on the substrate, with the help of lock joints, in the run, with gaps along the walls (margin for expansion when the temperature and (or) humidity in the room changes), using an affordable and inexpensive tool: jigsaw, mallet, square and tape measure.
3. Laying the laminate diagonally, the flow rate is the same as with conventional laying in a straight line. Therefore, the question of how to calculate the laminate diagonally, its quantity, is very easy to answer: add another 15% of the supply to the total meter of the room in which the laminate will be laid diagonally (although, if you are a beginner, unfortunately, the expense material can go beyond these 15% of the scope and make up to 25%).
4.When laying the laminate diagonally, the scheme should be, if not necessarily, then very desirable. It will help simplify all the work: decide on the pattern, and additional, spare 15% of the stock, if the stacking scheme is correctly calculated, can turn into insignificant 5%! After all, the excess pieces cut from the final lamella in each row will be the first in the next.
5. The diagonal laying angle of the laminate can be from 45 to 30 degrees, and the maximum room parameters in width-length should not exceed: 6m by 8m.
Knowing all these nuances, you need to be prepared for everything and choose the way you like laying the laminate diagonally.
Diagonal laying methods for laminate flooring
There are two ways to lay the laminate diagonally:
- from the corner (usually to the side: from the window to the door)
- from corner to corner from the center of the room. This way of laying the laminate diagonally is also called deck. To begin with, using a fishing line or thread, determine the diagonal, mark it and from it begin to put it to the left side, to the corner, then, similarly, to the right. This way of laying the laminate diagonally is the most economical, but at the same time more complicated, because requires more careful marking and tracking the location of the lamellas in relation to the selected diagonal.
It is also worth noting that laying the laminate diagonally is the best option for laying laminate throughout the apartment without sills. This is especially true in the presence of narrow and long corridors and transitions between rooms.
