The ceiling of plastic panels, ceiling lining, how to do it, useful tips
PVC panels have long occupied one of the leading places among building materials. They are made from durable, lightweight and strong polyvinyl chloride. Finishing work with PVC panels is performed not only in residential buildings, but also in common areas (hospitals, offices, schools and so on).

Key Benefits
The material is famous for its many positive characteristics:
- low cost, affordable to almost any buyer;
- moisture resistance, which makes it possible to mount in rooms with high humidity;
- strength and reliability, allowing operation for quite a long time;
- any cleaning agents are suitable for washing PVC;
- simple, even one-handed, installation;
- panels perfectly isolate sound;
- decorating the ceiling with PVC panels will make it possible to realize a wide variety of ideas;
- little weight.
But unfortunately, as in everything, PVC has its drawbacks:
- panels are very susceptible to sudden changes in temperature;
- when a ceiling made of plastic panels is planned, specialists insist on maximum accuracy during installation, because cracks or grooves form with more or less strong pressure or impact.
Of course, in comparative characteristics with natural materials, PVC is much inferior to them. Therefore, for facing a children's room or bedroom, you will have to choose another finishing material.
Professionals recommend: before choosing a facing material, you need to carefully consider all its pros and cons and only then make a decision about the use of this or that material.
In which rooms it is rational to use PVC, types of panels
In most cases, PVC is used to decorate corridors, bathrooms or kitchens. Before paneling the ceiling, you need to familiarize yourself with three main types:
- rack and pinion - visually resemble lining, fixed with special mounting brackets;
- under the tile - are fixed with brackets, but look much more interesting than the rack;
- sheet - fasteners are made with glue and nails, the gaps are leveled with sealant or narrow slats to the tone of the main material, they are produced mainly with a large pattern, outwardly they resemble sheets of plywood.

choose the material correctly
Work should begin with an accurate measurement of the ceiling area. Then decide on the type, color and texture of the material. Calculation of the amount of material needed must be made based on standard sizes: width from 20 cm to 50 cm, thickness from 5 mm to 100 mm. Then choose a plastic cornice. When the wall cladding is performed with the same material, profiles will be needed to design the external and internal joints. The length of the panel is from 2.6 m to 6 m. Calculation must be done very carefully in order to avoid a large amount of residues in the final work.
Choosing any product requires a thorough visual examination, also with PVC panels. If you detect the slightest differences or waves, you should not take them. Otherwise, the cladding will be skewed. Experts advise not to mount such sheets even in impenetrable places or corners, because even minimal non-compliance with GOST will lead to deformation of the entire structure.
Having chosen high-quality material for ceiling lining, you can rest assured that it will last a long time and at the same time remain level.
panel mounting options
Installation of plastic panels will require the following tools at hand:
- level
- screwdriver
- hammer drill
- a pencil
- hacksaws
- roulettes
- nook
- scissors
- material for the lathing (slats made of wood or metal profile)
- a sharp knife.
PVC ceiling can be finished in several ways. The choice depends on the percentage of moisture in the repaired building.
Frameless method, involves the installation of panels directly on the walls or ceiling. Facing with this method can only be used on a practically flat surface.
Fasteners themselves can be made with either special glue or liquid nails. This option can only be used in dry rooms. Glue on the surface is applied with a spatula with teeth. Mounting mortise fixtures in the panel is not possible. This option, in comparison with the frame, is much less in terms of time.
The wireframe method involves first installing the lathing (wooden or metal), and then installing the panels. Basically, wooden crates are made in rooms with low humidity. But there is an option to do this, for example, in the bathroom, but then the tree must first be treated with a special composition. To build the frame you need:
- level
- hammer
- screwdriver
- electric drill
- wooden slats
- screws or dowels.
The process begins with fixing rails around the perimeter of the repaired area. Then a lattice is made of battens fixed at a distance of 40 cm from each other using self-tapping screws. The final stage - PVC fasteners on a wooden crate with small nails or a stapler.
When creating a metal base, the same tools and the same installation principle are used, only metal profiles are taken instead of battens.
In this embodiment, the transverse lattice is not done.
When overlapping medium and large areas, joints are formed. To seal them, an L-start or a foam plinth is suitable. The last panel will have to be fixed with glue.
PVC Cladding Panels - More Information:
- absolutely do not absorb steam
- do not pass and do not absorb water
- famous for small pores that prevent strong and fast pollution.
Useful Tips
A few tips and statements from experts:
- glossy PVC is almost impossible to smear
- matte surfaces are smeared, but dirt is easy to remove from them,
- PVC does not deform when washed with alkaline products,
- panels can melt from a temperature of 80 ° C,
- if the ceiling is made with a crate, it is convenient to hide electrical communications in the resulting space,
- it is better to mount LED lights in a plastic surface,
- the use of light colored panels with a touch of gloss will visually increase and expand the area.
