Types of Dishwashers
The main division of dishwashers falls on the installation method and size.
Free-standing dishwashers can be installed anywhere among kitchen cabinets. If the kitchen furniture is made to order - this simplifies the task. Custom-made kitchen furniture allows you to choose a place for a dishwasher and install it anywhere.
Most standalone devices have a removable top panel, so the machine can be installed under the countertop of the kitchen table.
The dishwasher door is located under the control panel, or on the door.
Built-in models do not function without furniture. They are divided into two subspecies. The first is a partially integrated dishwasher. Its control panel is located on the front side of the door.
The fully integrated model differs from the ones described above in that it has a completely invisible, thin control panel that can only be seen when the device is open.
Dishwashers are available in two sizes in width - 60 cm. Standard and 45 cm. Narrow. The height of any device is about 85 cm, the depth is 60 cm.
A standard dishwasher holds 12-15 sets of dishes, including pans and pots, takes up more space in the kitchen, suitable for large families.
A narrow dishwasher is suitable for a small family, holds 8-10 sets of dishes, does not require a lot of space for installation, but it does not fit large pots and is not suitable for economical use - you wash the dishes twice when a standard machine could wash it for once, saving water and electricity.
It should be noted, and another type that appeared recently, is a desktop dishwasher.
Its dimensions are not larger than a microwave oven - 60 cm. Width and 40-50 cm. Depth, making it ideal for people with limited living space.
A compact helper fits easily on a table or on a shelf of kitchen furniture, like a regular dishwasher, a tabletop is connected to the water supply to the kitchen.
The only drawback of the compact device is its small capacity - up to 5 sets of dishes, and you can’t put large plates or pans in it.
Recall that one set of dishes consists of one deep and one shallow plate, tea cup, saucer, fork, spoon and knife.
power usage
How to choose a dishwasher so that it not only meets all the requirements of quality work, but also does not consume a lot of electricity?
We will answer this question now.
Energy conservation is what manufacturers like to brag about.
Indeed, energy consumption is significantly different from the same water heater.
Dishwashers are divided into seven energy classes, from A to G.
Also, energy efficiency is indicated by one or three + signs.
Each class has its own level of energy consumption (i.e. kWh - kilowatt hours) during operation.
The differences between the classes are not very large and amount to approximately 0.2 kWh, but the class G dishwasher consumes 70% more energy than the class A dishwasher, after a few years of use, of course, this will affect the family budget.
This table shows the classifications of energy classes of dishwashers with a width of 60 cm (for models with a width of 45 cm, class A is 0.8 kWh).
All designations and parameters are indicated in accordance with European Union directives.
Security - Installation and Protection Devices
The installation of the dishwasher must be carried out in accordance with all the rules for safe operation.
Most devices connect to cold water, but there are models that connect to hot water, in this case, make sure that the water temperature does not exceed 60 degrees and does not come from the water heater.
Before connecting the device, do not forget to close the main water supply valve; water and sewer connections must be made only with the appropriate hoses.
The length of the hose for the dishwasher, as well as for the washing machine, is 1.80 m. Install the device so that the hose is long enough for connection.
The drain hose is firmly attached to the drain to the sewer; if it is a sink, do not raise the hose above 0.4 m.
Do not use extension cords to connect the dishwasher to the mains.
Protection devices or security systems are designed to work successfully without failures in your absence.
Make sure your car has built-in flood protection that can detect a small amount of water at the bottom of the device and turn off in time.
Some dishwashers have an automatic shut-off function in case of damage or improper fastening of the water supply hose.
Accessories
After purchasing the device, do not forget to purchase a starter kit, which includes detergents for the dishwasher.
Rinse aid for dishwashers gives shine.
The freshener removes unpleasant odors.
Dishwashing liquid intended for dishwashing devices (available in the form of powder, liquid and tablets) removes grease, disinfects the internal parts of the device, and most importantly, removes limestone from the heater and other components of the machine.
It is recommended to purchase an aqua-stop device, it blocks the flow of water to the machine block in case of a sudden rupture of the inlet hose, which protects against the flood.
