The surface on which the installation will be carried out should also be strong enough, ideal if it is a concrete load-bearing wall.
However, it is quite possible to install kitchen wall cabinets with your own hands, but at the same time you will need to study certain rules for the installation work and adhere to them when doing work. It is advisable to first consider the moments that may arise when installing wall cabinets.
How to determine the height of the furniture
In order to use the lockers it was convenient when determining the height of hanging, you need to take into account the growth of the owners - the hostess should get items located on the middle shelves without using a chair or stepladder. At the same time, according to GOST, the distance between the lower edge of the wall cabinet and the countertop should be at least 45 cm.
It will be enough to place small household appliances on the table surface:
- a toaster and microwave
- electric kettle, coffee maker, blender, etc.
The standard for furniture stores is considered a distance of 60 cm.
In order to determine the height of placement in a particular case, taking into account the growth of the hostess, you can use the following calculations (the optimal distances between the countertop and the top shelf of the wall cabinet are given):
- with the growth of the hostess 155-160 cm, the height to the upper shelf should be 1.75 m,
- with a growth of 160-170 cm - 1.9 m,
- about the growth of 175-190 cm - 2 m.
How to prepare the walls for work
Preparatory work will consist in leveling the walls during the repair, giving them verticality, it is also desirable that the corners of the room are 90 degrees.
Before starting the installation of furniture, it is required to complete all the installation of sanitary equipment and the installation of electrical wiring. At the same time, pipes and cables should be hidden in the walls, sockets should be installed in such a place that access to them is easy and convenient, they should be positioned so that they do not interfere with the installation of hanging furniture.
Before starting the installation of furniture, you should also finish the walls, lining or painting after installation of the furniture will be impossible.
It will be necessary to prepare tools and materials in advance:
- drill or punch,
- level,
- screwdriver and screwdriver,
- spanners,
- hammer, clamp.
Experts advise to install kitchen wall cabinets:
- on a wooden wall with hardened screws with semicircular heads,
- if there is a brick or concrete bearing wall - the cabinet is hung using dowels, plugs, anchor bolts,
- drywall walls will require the use of Molly expandable dowels.
How to hang a kitchen cabinet
There are two ways to do this work:
- by hanging the cabinet on a pre-mounted rail
- install on the loop.
In the event that furniture hinges or other elements will be used for fastening, it will be necessary to initially repel the line along which the upper borders of the wall cabinets will be built. In order for the hung cabinets to look attractive, the line of their fastening must be strictly horizontal.
If the rack-and-pinion option of fastening the hinged furniture can be attributed to quite affordable and easy to perform, then hanging on the hinges is a rather complicated process: if the slightest mistake is made, you will need to re-drill the load-bearing wall.
In the event that the repair did not pay due attention to the alignment of the walls, then experts recommend giving preference to hanging cabinets on the rail.
The advantage of this method is the ability to cope with the work yourself, without outside help.
The technology is extremely simple:
- First, a strictly horizontal line is beaten off at the desired height, and a mounting rail is fastened along it.
- If the wall has dubious strength or is it made of drywall, then you will need to drive the dowels into the holes drilled in the wall.
- Hinges are mounted on the side walls of the cabinets, their hooks are turned into the middle position with the help of adjusting screws, while the hooks should protrude 2-4 mm from the cabinet wall, this will allow them to catch on the mounting plate.
- Then you can hang cabinets or shelves on the rail. The cabinets should be leveled immediately, using pre-assembled adjusting screws.
- Lockers are recommended to be fastened together with clamps.
- Then, with the help of an intersection coupler, the cabinets are fastened together.
- After that, you can hang the doors on the cabinets and install shelves in them.
Among the advantages of the option of mounting cabinets on a rail are:
- ability to hold weight up to 120 kg,
- uniform weight distribution along the length of the mounting plate,
- over the years, allows you to perform multiple repetitions of the procedure for opening and closing cabinets.
If the furniture set has corner hinged cabinets, you will definitely need to adjust the surface of the adjacent walls so that the angle with honey turns exactly 90 degrees.
In addition, this option is characterized by durability and safe operation.
Of the disadvantages of the option with a mounting plate, it can be noted:
- relatively high cost, but it is fully compensated by the ability to complete the installation quickly, without resorting to outside help,
- between the hung cabinets and the wall there will be a small gap, such a structure will not fit snugly against the wall.
Some useful tips
- The height of attachment of wall cabinets should be determined individually, taking into account the growth of the owners of the room.
- The mounting rail is fastened approximately 3-4 cm below the level at which the top edge of the furniture will be.
- When determining the horizontal line, it is best to use a level - walls, ceilings and floors are not always distinguished by ideal geometry.
- When installing hinged furniture on plasterboard walls, it is recommended to use special dowels-butterflies, with their help a denser pressing of the fastening to the wall surface will be provided.
- The crumbling of the wall during drilling shows that for work it is necessary to take a thinner drill, you can give the holes the desired diameter using a thicker drill.
- Drilling in the walls where hidden electrical wiring is located should be done very carefully.
- To prevent damage to the cabinet surface with clamps, a wood plate should be placed between the cabinet panels and the clamp.
- To avoid chipping during the drilling of the furniture surface, you should first use a thin drill, then drill them with a drill of the desired diameter.
- The hanging height is optimal and ergonomic when the distance between the lower border of the wall cabinet and the worktop is 60 cm.
- To place cabinets next to large kitchen appliances, for example, a refrigerator, it should be so that they are slightly higher than the item of equipment.
- If the furniture set has a pencil case, then it should be placed at a distance of not less than 0.5 m from the gas stove.
- Furniture installation should begin with the lower cabinets, then install the upper tier of furniture.
Getting started, remember that the main thing is not the chosen option for hanging cabinets, but a responsible approach and high-quality performance of the entire amount of work.
