Choosing a garden style
Modern garden styles have historical roots and are classified as rural, Japanese, Italian, English, Russian, etc.
When choosing a style, objective factors are taken into account, namely:
- local climate;
- reference to the surrounding landscape;
- plot size;
- architecture of a residential building;
- material capabilities of the owner.
The most important factor influencing the choice of garden style, of course, is the local climate. Because, you can create a good landscape design of a personal plot in the conditions of our climate, but this requires a lot of patience, labor, time, since heat-loving plants must be preserved in winter and this requires serious insulation, storage in greenhouses, etc.
The second factor in choosing a style depends on the size of your site and the surrounding landscape.
Large plots are ideal for a peasant garden, if the plot has large trees - for the Russian estate style.
If you are in the mountains and near the sea - the Mediterranean style.
If your site is small, surrounded by a brick fence - use an exotic style.
The third criterion for choosing a style is to take into account the architecture of the house, its appearance and interior space.
The peasant garden involves the architecture of the building in the form of a house from a log or timber, or another house, in the tradition of local rural architecture.
Russian manor style
This style is well suited for a large mansion, in the decoration of the facade of which there are columns, pilasters, porticoes.
A combination of delicate shades of walls with white elements of decoration, together with the surrounding park, creates a nostalgic mood.
Art Nouveau style
This style looks perfect in combination with a house built in a modern technological style. A large amount of glass, reinforced concrete and metal is used in the construction of the house.
As such, the ideal combination of home and garden style is sometimes very difficult or even impossible to create.
Sometimes a good choice of wall and roof colors can change the style, changing directions in creating a garden, while taking into account material opportunities.
Exotic gardens require not only expensive planting material, natural stone, but also the maintenance of the gardener.
Peasant style
This style has its roots in the connection of folk traditions and architecture, depending on its geographical location, it can dramatically differ in the design of the site and the house.
For example, for Russians, the peasant style is associated with a chopped log house, with a wooden fence in the form of a picket fence and a front garden with bright simple colors.
For Western European rural architecture, this is a house with plastered light walls, dark wood and dark brown or terracotta tiles are used in the decoration, alongside old, old-fashioned plants.
The essence of the rural garden style is rough stone or log walls of the house, wooden fences and wickers. The general mood associated with nature, with an amazing mosaic of color, but at the same time, there must be a common strict concept of light, it should control and combine everything as a whole, everything should be combined with the house and landscape.
In the village garden, it is recommended to use old-fashioned plants: sweet peas, phlox, dahlias, nasturtium, snapdragon, it is necessary to allow these flowers to grow in a half-run form.
Paints can be very bright, but behind the bright colors in the background there should be a calm view of the wall of the house, hedge or shrub.
Natural wood furniture is suitable as outdoor furniture, gray, old, weathered wood looks good, bog wood furniture is suitable.
Conventional clay pots are used as containers for flowers, and it is also possible to grow flowers in old barrels and tanks.
A sign of Western rural architecture is stone and brick paving; for Russian architecture, villages use wood and gravel with grass blades sprouted in it.
As accessories, often use the old garden tools (old wooden wheel, wooden well, etc.). Very effectively complement the picture of the rural garden chopped bathhouse and garden.
Wicker fences play a dividing role between the garden and the surrounding landscape.
The rural garden is secluded shady corners, flower beds with fragrant flowers, all that evokes nostalgic memories of childhood.
Modern oriental style
The landscape gardening art of China has a clear ideological basis, the religion of the east connects spiritualized forces and natural phenomena. The composition of all parks is based on the creative recreation of the natural landscapes of China.
Principles of Oriental Gardens:
- act according to local conditions;
- maximize the use of the surrounding nature;
- determine the main and secondary;
- apply the contrast of light and dark, large and small, high and low;
- strive to achieve ideal proportions.
Oriental style has characteristic features: stones, a large number of water surfaces, a variety of small architectural forms (lions, incense burners, small architectural forms with tiled curved roofs) are actively used, decorative vegetation is carefully selected here.
Gardening art in Japan has borrowed a lot from the Chinese builders of parks, but the Japanese have very well mastered the art of creating miniature landscapes.
The Japanese garden does not have lawns, instead of it, densely tamped earth, golden or white sand is poured in the form of complex patterns, flat stones are used for walking, they form a path.
Sakura, peach trees, Japanese maple - the most characteristic plants of the Japanese style.
Often used quickly flowing streams flowing into the lake, if there is no water, builders created a dry stream.
Crossing the stream served as paths of flat stones or beautiful bridges.
The Japanese stone garden looks beautiful, created on the contrast of natural boulders and fine gravel. Often used moss in the design of stones and surfaces.
In modern conditions and in our gardens they often use oriental traditions, arrange a miniature Japanese garden in any part of their plot. When creating this kindergarten, do not get carried away by a large number of bridges, flashlights, so as not to get the effect of theatrical scenery.
As containers for plants, use wooden pots and stone troughs.
For garden furniture, use natural materials such as stone, dark stained wood, bamboo, furniture should be low.
For green design, use fern and moss, from conifers: cedar, barn, juniper, dwarf pine.
In general, the Japanese garden is clear lines and simplicity of forms.
