Frame house: a little about the technology of its construction
What is a frame house? From the name itself it becomes clear that this is a house, the frame of which is a lath made of wooden beams or galvanized metal profiles of various thicknesses, using sandwich panels, i.e. it is a fairly quick construction.
Several types of materials can be used as insulation, but when using any type of insulation, the latter must be protected from all kinds of weather conditions from the outside.
OSB boards, plywood or cement bonded boards are well suited for these purposes. But, in order to protect them from the weather, you need to use facade plaster or sew them with siding.
It would seem, well, what does the heater have to do with one of the components of frame construction? Yes, but the frame house, in its essence, consists practically of 80% of the insulation !!! That is why the choice of insulation for frame construction must be approached with special attention.
Frame house: why do you need insulation
So why do you need insulation for a frame house, in addition, of course, to insulate?
The insulation, regardless of its type and thickness, performs the following functions:
Firstly, warmingAt the same time, the thickness of the insulation for the frame house with our winters should be in the range from 15 to 25 cm. At the same time, there is not just warming the house, but the creation of the thermos effect: the house not only quickly heats up in the winter, and also quickly cools down in heat, with the help of air conditioners, but also retains heat for a long time or cool inside. And this, in turn, saves the cost of fuel and electricity, reducing the financial costs of maintaining such a house. The same property of the insulation, low heat capacity, combined with the use of vapor-permeable membranes, make the frame house similar in its basic characteristics to a wooden house, making the frame house breathable, creating the optimal microclimate (combination of temperature and humidity).
Secondly, sound insulation: due to the fact that the insulation itself usually has a bubble-fibrous structure and a decent thickness: up to 25 cm.
Thirdly, many types of insulation, like, among other things, and all materials used in frame construction, has high fire resistance after special processing.
Insulation for frame house: types and advantages
The following insulation materials for the walls of the frame house:
- expanded polystyrene / polyurethane This insulation has the appearance of plates. The most affordable and cheapest option of insulation. But, the disadvantages include its vapor impermeability with the subsequent appearance of condensate on the walls.
- polyurethane foam: almost foamy-gaseous substance, because consists of many bubbles filled with air, the shell of which hardens in air. Polyurethane foam is not combustible, moisture and frost resistant, a good noise isolator, quite safe and environmentally friendly in finished form, but requires special equipment and protective equipment when applying (spraying) it on the walls of the house, as a heater. Its cost, 1 sq.m. the finished coating is also above average.
- monolithic foam concrete, expanded polystyrene: options for practically capital monolithic construction and insulation, as at its core, it is cellular concrete (lightweight concrete), supplied through a special installation in the formwork of the walls. It is not combustible, frost and moisture resistant, but it is that insulation for a frame house the price for which will be quite high, although adequate. A house using such a heater will be the most vandal resistant. A minus, in addition to the price, may be the fact that without special equipment this type of insulation cannot be used.
- mineral wool industrial material, one of its types, basalt insulation.
- Basalt insulationfor a frame house, at the moment, the best insulation for frame houses, in combination of such properties as: price, quality, fire resistance, environmental friendliness and the possibility of independent use. Considering the fact that mineral wool (glass wool, basalt slabs), although moisture resistant, is completely vapor permeable due to its fibrous structure, which allows it to be used to create a breathing home.
- Ecowool (cellulose insulation): loose, light, environmentally friendly and fairly cheap at cost, but expensive during installation, type of insulation: special equipment is required. An additional disadvantage is its fire hazard, because it is wood fiber, 80% - 90%, with a wet installation method, it requires drying, it shrinks.

So what is the best insulation for a frame house? Eco-friendly and not cheap, but functional, such as expanded polystyrene. Or, affordable and popular basalt insulation you decide. But, in any case, remember that you need to build if not for centuries, then at least for decades!
