Toilet designs
The design of the toilet has various advantages, but there are also disadvantages in each design.
We will consider the most common, at present, toilet bowls-compacts, toilet bowls attached and toilet bowls of suspended models.
Toilet bowls - compact
Toilets are compact, have been distributed in Russia since the Soviet era.
Until now, these models are most popular.
The toilet bowl compact consists of its own toilet bowl plus flushing tank with all fittings.
In any bathroom, even fully finished, such a toilet model can be easily installed.
This toilet is floor mounted, i.e. the toilet itself is attached directly to the floor, directly the floor takes over the entire weight of the toilet and rider.
The disadvantage of this model is the tank, since it occupies a certain space, and if the bathroom is small, then sometimes the user's legs rest against the door.
Hygienic care for the compact is more difficult, since you have to wash not only the cup, but also the tank itself.
In addition, it is necessary to monitor the cleanliness of various inlets, sewer outlet.
It should be noted that modern manufacturers have launched the production of monolithic models.
For such models, the case fits snugly against the wall, closing unsightly communications.
These models look more modern and beautiful.
Flush toilets
Attached toilets are also attached to the floor, but you will not see the drain tank.
Such toilets have special flat drain tanks for flush mounting.
Such flat tanks are installed in the wall itself, i.e. in the thickness of the masonry, can be installed behind a plasterboard partition.
Only flush keys are displayed on the wall.
Such toilet bowls look very impressive, they are easy to care for.
The advantages of attached toilets are that since they are attached to the floor, they can be installed in bathrooms where there is no main wall.
The main requirement for the wall is to support the weight of the flushing tank.
Wall hung or cantilevered toilets
Suspension or console models are widespread in Europe.
In recent years, wall hung toilets have become popular in Russia.
A big plus is ease of maintenance, hygienic design.
Since there is no support under the toilet bowl, mopping the floor in such a bathroom is very simple.
A flushing cistern on the outside of the wall is also not observed.
Those. installation is made in a hidden way.
But for such toilets, a supporting structure is necessarily installed - an installation system that has a solid steel frame.
The installation itself is attached to the main wall and floor, and if there is no main wall, it is only attached to the floor.
Installation withstands weight up to 400 kg.
The toilet itself and flush cistern are attached to this system, and then the installation is closed with drywall, you only see the toilet and flush keys from the outside.
What to consider when choosing a toilet?
Choosing a toilet, you should focus not only on the beauty of the model, but you need to choose a design that can be installed without problems in your bathroom.
Choosing an attached or compact toilet bowl model - pay attention to the sewer outlet.
There are three types of sewer outlet:
- oblique outlet - sewer pipe at an angle directed from top to bottom;
- direct outlet - has a horizontal pipe parallel to the floor;
- vertical outlet - the pipe goes vertically to the floor.
Choosing a toilet model - the sewer of the toilet should be of the same type as in your toilet.
In Europe, the most popular models have a horizontal release.
In Russia, the Soviet era, the most common - oblique release.
For private houses, the most common is the vertical outlet - sewers are carried out directly through the floor.
Using adapters, you can redo the horizontal outlet for oblique or vertical version.
However, the use of adapters slightly increases the length of the toilet, and these few centimeters, with a small bathroom, can be decisive, since your knees will go outside the toilet room.
The release of suspended models is already included in the challenge to the installation system itself.
The best hygiene toilet
The main task of toilet hygiene is cleanliness inside the bowl.
The design of the bowl itself can cause hygiene problems.
The toilet bowls of former Soviet times had a ledge in front of a mirror of water, the shape of the bowl was called dish-shaped.
The main plus of such a dish-shaped bowl is the absence of splashes.
But the shelf is easily dirty and the smell is not blocked.
Therefore, only domestic manufacturers now produce such dish-shaped toilets, although consumers are still actively using them.
Modern popular toilets have a funnel-shaped bowl.
The bowl does not have a shelf; it narrows down like a funnel.
All dirt immediately falls into the water - less dirt and almost no smell.
But there is a drawback - when using, splashes appear.
Some companies have developed anti-splash systems with anti-splash systems to get rid of splashes.
There is a toilet bowl with a half-shelf - one side of the funnel becomes more gentle, the water mirror is shifted forward or backward.
When using such models - less spray, but the bowl gets dirty more.
The issue of cleaning the toilets directly depends on the quality of the material of the bowl itself.
Mostly ceramic bowls.
Ceramic is a porous material, i.e. helps absorb dirt. Faience is a cheaper type of ceramic, but it is also more porous. Porcelain is denser, but also expensive.
To resolve all these issues, all manufacturers cover the ceramic bowl with glaze.
Many manufacturers have developed special dirt and water repellent coatings.
The use of such coatings allows not to retain dirt and water on the surface of the bowl, i.e. it all just slides.
The problematic part of the toilet is the rim.
The rim of the bowl closes the hole for the flow of water, so the rim is very difficult to clean, because it is difficult to get close to it.
Some manufacturers and the rim are coated with special enamel - dirt adheres to it worse.
Sometimes toilet bowls are made without a rim - in such models, water flows under pressure through openings on the back of the bowl.
Toilet seats
Modern toilets come in various shapes and sizes.
Under each toilet, a special seat is made, on the principle of sitting, like a poured.
Material is the most diverse.
Hard plastic is the cheapest material, hygienic and practical.
Often they use antibacterial plastic for sitting, bacteria reduce their development on the surface of such plastic.
The color scheme of the seats is different, most often selected by the color of the toilet.
There are soft seats, it’s more pleasant to sit on them, but their hygiene is lower than that of plastic.
Wooden seats are an expensive option, they can even be made from valuable wood.
Modern seats with a micro-lift.
Such seats are equipped with a smooth lowering mechanism.
Microlift seats are equipped with a small closer - it inhibits the fall of the seat or cover.
Microlift seats close slowly and silently.
There are toilet seats with quick-attach mechanisms.
This seat is easy to remove and install back when cleaning.
If you want to have a bidet, but it may not fit in the bathroom, install a bidet cover.
Some companies have a list of specific toilet models that their bidet covers are suitable for.
Toilet bowl
A leaking toilet bowl is inadmissible luxury nowadays, since we all have a responsibility to save water.
Modern companies - manufacturers of sanitary ware supply their toilet bowls and their tanks with silicone valves.
Silicone valves are not deformed in water, they are technological and reliable.
Most toilet tanks have two drain modes.
One button provides a large volume of water, and the other small - this can significantly save water consumption.
The amount of water depends on the design of the toilet.
For some toilets, this is 6 and 3 liters.
Economical models drain 4.5 liters. and 2-3 liters.
To eliminate the noise of pouring water into the tank - make a lower supply of water to the tank.
This noise problem concerns compact toilets.
For models whose tanks are hidden in the wall, there is no such problem.
Angled toilet
The angular design of the toilet, designed for small bathrooms.
If the toilet is angular, there is free space on its sides.
A corner toilet can also be angular with a tank built into the wall.
These models are rarely used, but you can find them if you wish.
Toilet bowl sizes
Toilets vary in seat height.
In the middle of the last century, the height of the toilet was 38-40 cm.
Modern people have become higher and the toilet bowls have grown by 2 cm, steel 40-42 cm.
For people with disabilities, modern companies produce higher models, 44-48 cm high.
