Electric saws how to choose
Electric saws are quite diverse in design. Chainsaws are used for rough sawing of building materials, firewood, and jigsaws, miter saws are used for precision machining of parts. They also produce more or less universal models.

Types and types of power saws
How to choose the right electric saw, let's try to understand this article. The name of the electric saw includes three types of construction tools that differ in the design of the cutting mechanism. Jigsaws, reciprocating saws, carpentry saws are devices with reciprocating sawing mode. Disc and chain saws relate to technology with a cutting mechanism in the form of a rotating disk or a gear chain.
Circular or circular saws
Such saws have a cutting mechanism in the form of a rotating disk with teeth. They are used when making long and even cuts, although with the help of additional guide rails, they can cut the material at the right angle.
Between themselves, circular saws differ in:
1. power consumption;
2. blade rotation speed;
3. the diameter of the cutting disc and the diameter of its bore;
4. the availability of additional devices that expand the capabilities of various types of cut and ensure the safe operation of the saw.
The power of most models ranges from one to two kilowatts. Although there are household models with less power and professional models with more power.
The quality of the cut depends on the speed of rotation of the disk, the higher it is, the more accurate the cut line. Typically, circular saws have one speed of rotation of the disk, from three thousand to five thousand revolutions at idle. But in some instruments (АТ65ЕВ, Festool, Germany; PKS66CE electronic, Bosch, Germany) it is regulated.
The first AT65EB model even comes with a list of speeds for chipboard, PVC. Variable speed, allows you to start work at low speeds, without a jerk.
An even greater impact on the quality of cut, has the type of disk. Disks vary in size, shape of teeth, sharpening angles. The number of teeth can range from 10 to 120 pieces, the more they are, the higher the quality of cut and the lower the cutting speed.
A high-quality cut is produced by the TS55EBQ (Festool) submersible circular saw. This model has special guides, along which the saw moves with high accuracy. There is also a specially located disc, it is recessed in a fixed casing and extends if the sole of the saw abuts against the workpiece. This saw easily cuts chipboard, fiberboard, while no chips are formed on the edge of the cut.
Discs of a certain diameter are suitable for each circulation saw. The larger the disk, the greater the thickness it can cut. Of course, it is better to purchase a more powerful tool with a large disk, however, the price will be more expensive and these models are heavier in weight. You should be aware that you cannot install a smaller disk on a saw. The gap between the blade and the blade guard will be very large, which is a danger to the master. Remember, circular saws are the most traumatic type of power tool.
There are special devices for the comfortable operation of circular saws, such as devices for cutting at an angle, they allow you to make cuts at an angle of up to 45 degrees. Some models of Protool, Czech Republic and Metabo Germany, use a soft start and engine braking system, automatic shutdowns when the engine overheats and prevents excessive wear of the brushes. Other saws 5143 (Makita Japan), equipped with an electronic brake, which within 2 seconds, stops the rotary disk. And in all AEG models (Germany), a lower protective cover is installed, it automatically shifts during operation, and if the saw is in an elevated state, it extends and closes the cutting disc.
Circular saws, especially those that are not used in a stationary state, are made as light as possible - the case is made of aluminum alloy, since it better removes heat from the engine. When choosing a tool, pay attention to the presence and design of the additional handle. Be sure to hold the saw in your hands to assess how comfortable it is. Pay attention to the length of the cable, as the cable reserve provides additional freedom for maneuver.
Miter saw
Such saws are a circular saw suspended above the bed using a movement mechanism. This allows you to saw materials at a given angle, with great accuracy and in any projection.
This tool is available in table or floor design, often it is a professional technique. Everything that has been said about the classification of a circular tool can be attributed to miter saws. They also vary in power, diameter and speed of rotation of the installed disk.
Combined Miter Saw
The miter saw has another useful option, it can work like a regular circular saw, make longitudinal cuts. Such devices are often called combination saws.
Combined circular milling equipment is more expensive than usual, but useful for all occasions. Miter saws have all the mechanisms for moving the cutting disc and fixing it in a given inclined or rotary position, all actions are performed with great accuracy. Its price is higher. When buying, pay attention to the presence of additional devices that provide an accurate cut, for example, a laser indicator, the ability to adjust the speed of rotation of the disk.
Chain saws
Used mainly for gardening, the main advantage is high productivity, they can even cope with very thick tree trunks.
The closest relative is chainsaws, which are used for logging. However, electric saws have a lower weight, a relatively small mass of the tool, do not pollute the atmosphere. For gardening, electric saws are the best option.
They differ among themselves in power (on average from 1.4 to 1.8 kW.), The length of the tire on which the gear chain is installed (from 30 to 45 cm), the shape and size of the chain teeth.
In conclusion, I would like to mention the Duo-Saw (KRESS-Elektrik) model, which is both a circular saw and a chain saw. This saw allows you to install either a disk or a tire with a chain and quickly replace one cutting tool with another. The number of possible works is expanding significantly.
Helpful hints:
- most often saws suffer from nails, therefore, before starting to cut, it is necessary to remove all nails, fasteners;
- saw models are constantly being improved, so before buying, consult with an experienced seller, his tips will come in handy.
