How to make a creek on the site
The organization of the functioning of the stream, in principle, the procedure is not so complicated. It consists in the constant pumping by a pump, immersed in a pond, of a small amount of water to the source of the stream. Water is supplied through the most ordinary hose, falling into the channel, it is returned back to the reservoir. As you can see, the technical side of the issue is very simple. Planning and creation of a channel and its ennobling will require more attention and effort - after all, a stream should become a decoration of the site.
To begin with, a site suitable for the brook is chosen on the site, while taking into account that the channel should look natural - it can be bizarrely curved, looping, it’s good if it goes around picturesque shrubs, decorative stones will look beautiful on the banks of the brook.
The direct form of the channel can be if the channel is located along garden paths. Of course, without a proper refinement, such a brook will be a bit like a canal, but fancifully shaped bushes and beautiful grasses or flowers planted along it will emphasize the beauty of the author’s idea. You should also take care of the improvement of the shores of the pond, into which the brook will flow. Planning will require solving the issue of additional nuances, in particular, the need to create a small waterfall.
Recommendations for creating a channel
The best place for the brook to be located is a site with a natural elevation, possibly on a gentle slope of a hill. The channel should have deepenings and shallows; the naked stones and islands located in it look beautiful.
To begin with, on the site mark up a place for the channel. This can be done with a rope. Then they dig up the soil, making elevations, the so-called. thresholds. The dug ditch is cleaned of residual roots and pebbles, well tamped. A thick layer of sand is poured into the trench, then the bottom is lined with geotextiles. It should with reserve cover the entire width of the brook. Geotextiles are fixed with stones, the bed is decorated with pebbles and stones of a larger fraction. The hose intended for water circulation should be laid along the channel, it can be masked with the help of turf.
You should also arrange the entrance of the channel to the artificial reservoir. If this is not available, then you can use a container of sufficient size instead, or you will have to create a small pond yourself, laying its bottom with a film.
The banks of the brook are planted with herbaceous plants, flowers and shrubs. Preference should be given to those that grow well on moist soils. The moisture-loving viburnum, hydrangea, thyroid, lilac, jasmine, honeysuckle, and ferns look beautiful on the banks of the stream. Grassy plants should be planted along the coast, which will hide the materials used in the construction: creeping tenacious and coin-fronds, they tolerate excessive moisture and shallow roots. You can also plant meadow plants, such as water plants, mosses, calendula, cuckoo flax. Plants should be planted in islets, as it happens in nature. Directly in the water, a tail and a buttercup can grow.
Creek Care Features
With proper design of the stream in the garden or on the site, special complex care for it will not be required.
- Its maintenance will consist in the purification of water and its filtration.
- You will also need to periodically add water to the pond or container.
- At least once a year, you will need to clean all hoses and filters from sludge, clean stones, and do pump maintenance. To do this, of course, you will need to drain all the water from the brook.
- For the winter period, it is also advisable to drain the channel and remove the pumping equipment.
- During the spring connection, do not be lazy to check the wiring.
With correctly performed calculations, high-quality waterproofing and well-chosen pumping equipment, no special problems should arise during the operation of the stream.
Thinking to build a water complex to decorate your site or garden, you should clearly understand that to maintain its attractiveness and decorativeness, appropriate care will be required.
Dry creek - what is its appeal
It is not always possible to build an artificial stream with water at the summer cottage - then they resort to creating a dry option. The designers themselves borrowed this idea from the inhabitants of the Celestial Empire, who are sure that the presence of a stream, even created from sand and stones, is mandatory on each plot of land.
Creating such an option for decorating the garden is quite simple: you should stock up some sand and pebbles and arm yourself with imagination.
Having chosen a place for the channel, it is designated with sand, while the width of the channel should be different in individual sections, and the shape should be meandering. This will help give maximum resemblance to a natural source.
On the positive side, the stream on the site will contribute to the visual expansion of the territory.
According to the marked outlines, a shallow ditch is dug (15 cm will be enough), its bottom is lined with a film or a dense non-woven fabric with geotextiles) to exclude the possibility of grass germination. Then stones are laid at the bottom - it can be pebbles or stones that can be found in a given area.
Looking at the artificial stream in the garden in the photo, you can see that its decorativeness largely depends on how beautifully decorated the colors of its shore. It will enhance the resemblance to the present and give the site an attractively built scenic bridge across the stream.
