Metal stoves for a bath, how to choose the right way, how to install
To achieve the most comfortable conditions for rest and recreation in your own bath with a steam room is possible only if the optimal temperature and humidity conditions are provided in the bath room. Naturally, this will require the installation of a high-quality stove in the bath house. In the old days, they usually resorted to the construction of a capital brick furnace, today more and more often preference is given to purchased or home-made metal heating units.

Metal stoves for a bath and their advantages
The attention of users to metal furnaces is quite understandable:
- they can heat the bath room very quickly, without the formation of carbon monoxide,
- help economically manage fuel reserves,
- their operation does not lead to fire hazard situations.
Such a furnace can work for many hours - while everyone is ready to work on. The design of the furnace and the use of thick sheet metal for its manufacture make it possible to plan the operation of the heating unit for a long time.
Metal stoves warm the room about 5-7 times faster than brick stoves, it will take about two to three hours to completely warm up the bathhouse, but if you want, you can start taking bathing procedures after an hour has passed since the furnace was kindled.
To obtain a more economical fuel consumption, it is possible to use a metal furnace to heat a stove installed in the next room. Of course, this option will require the correct installation of the stove and furnace, the construction of a special outlet in the furnace, which allows directing hot air to warm the stove. Proper drawing up of drawings will be required, taking into account all fire safety requirements.
Varieties of metal furnaces
All metal furnaces are divided into three varieties, depending on what type of fuel they use:
- firewood,
- natural gas,
- electricity.
The use of each type of stove is associated with certain advantages and disadvantages, so the choice of model should be taken very seriously, taking into account the characteristics of the stoves and their individual requirements.
In order not to make a mistake in choosing, you should be familiar with the design of furnaces. Wood stoves consist of a firebox for wood and a body. An attractive moment is a feeling of warmth and peace, calming nerves, crackles of burning logs, an incomparable aroma of essential oils emanating from the wood in the room, which has a healing effect on the respiratory organs. However, wood-burning models are not without drawbacks - they tend to accumulate soot in the chimney, it is difficult to attribute them to highly economical ones, for a quick ignition of the stove without the formation of soot, you will need to have a supply of high-quality, dry firewood. The power of wood units is calculated individually, taking into account the design of the stove, the type of ventilation, the mode of operation, the type of wood used as fuel.
The design of a natural gas-fired oven includes a casing, a gas thermostat and a fuse to shut off the gas in the event that a flame is detected. Attractive points are the efficiency of gas stoves and the ability to quickly warm up the steam room. The main problems are the need to lay a gas pipeline, drawing up an individual project, attracting qualified specialists to the installation of the furnace. To calculate the required power, the size of the bath room and the place of use of the gas heating device should be taken into account - in areas located in the North, where the climate is much colder, heating the steam room will require more time.
The electric furnace for a bath is TENY installed in a metal case. Such models are equipped with modern temperature control systems, timers, and a control panel that can be outside the steam room. The design of the furnace ensures the complete safety of people in the steam room and eliminates the possibility of electric shock. The main problem that arises during operation is the high cost of electricity.
Constructions and forms
The design of a metal furnace of any kind has the same principle:
- sheet metal housing
- stone chamber
- refractory brick laying,
- water tank.
You can buy metal stoves for the bath in the following categories:
- An open design, with an open version of the heater, when stones are laid on a grate located above the firebox. An oven of this design must be laid out with refractory bricks. Such an oven works efficiently, the room warms up quickly.
- Closed, designed for installation in small rooms. Such stoves have a body divided into three parts: the lower one has a furnace with a blower, the middle one has a heater with an opening for steam, and the upper one has a water tank. This design assumes that the inside and outside of the stove will be lined with refractory bricks.
- Combined, with a firebox, looking like a box, equipped with two gate valves - for a heater and a blower. Stacking of stones is made in the neck of the box. The top of such a stove is equipped with two nozzles having four holes for the pipe and the bypass elbow.
The shape of the furnaces can also be different - horizontal, cylindrical, rectangular, curly. Experts recommend choosing rectangular models - they differ in uniform heating of each of the elements. Cylindrical models are considered the most unstable - uneven heating of the upper and lower parts leads to the appearance of a deformation of the metal structure. The mechanical stability of the unit as a result of this is not high, they resort to thickening walls to solve the problem. However, this fact does not affect safety of operation, if such a design is most suitable for installation in this room, then its purchase and installation should not be refused.
For the manufacture of bath furnaces using sheet iron with a thickness of 4-5 mm.
The furnace for the bath is chosen correctly
The choice of model of a metal furnace and its required power will depend on many factors. Before making a purchase, you should consider the answers to the following questions:
- specify the dimensions of the steam room - this will be required to calculate the power,
- how will the water be heated - it will be supplied from a centralized source,
- heat up from a stove or from separately installed electrotenes,
- which location of the tank is preferable - on top of the furnace or sideways,
- what should be the volume of the tank - with its increase you will have to choose a stove more powerful, or else - expect a longer time that will be required to warm the room,
- specify the type of fuel,
- if the furnace will run on electricity, then you should plan the wiring of a new cable and make sure that the required voltage is available
- to consider the location of the heater, whether it will be drowned from the steam room or from another room,
- decide how often the bath will be used, especially in the cold season,
- how important is the size of the furnace, its design in the conditions of your steam room, whether facing brick, tile, tiles, natural stones will be used as decoration.
How to install a metal furnace in a bath
The efficiency and safety of operation will depend on how correctly installed the furnace is. Therefore, when planning and performing installation work, it should be borne in mind that installation should be made on a base having a greater thickness and made of fireproof material, for example, asbestos board. There must be a distance of at least 1 meter between the walls of the bathhouse and the location of the furnace. If the walls are sheathed with metal sheet or plastered (a layer of at least 2.5 cm), then the distance to wooden structures can be reduced by 20 cm. The stove and chimney should be located as close to each other as possible. At least one and a half meters of free space should remain in front of the oven.
A metal furnace for a bath, drawings for the manufacture of which are taken ready-made, or are made independently, must comply with the requirements of GOST for safety. Before buying a furnace, you should determine how much its technical characteristics, namely: the volume of the hot water tank and the heating time, correspond to the parameters of a particular bath room.
Mounting a metal furnace in a bath will also require the preparation of a ceiling-mounted device. Usually it is a steel sheet with a hole and is designed to prevent fire during strong heating of the furnace and pipe. Then the protective screen is mounted. Its size must necessarily exceed the dimensions of the furnace opening. Next, you can set up a chimney made of metal.
Installation work should be done before the start of interior decoration. It is advisable to consider all the nuances, do not forget about the arrangement of the ventilation system.
How to choose stones for the stove
Even the best metal stove will not work efficiently if the stones for it are not correctly selected and stacked. To choose good cameos, you should consider the following tips:
choose cobblestones strong, with a large mass, with a smooth surface, without defects,
the shape should be round
the size of the cobblestones can be different, large ones will be laid down, then medium in size, and the smallest will be on top.
If all the requirements for the furnace will be taken into account when buying or making it by the master, the bathhouse will delight all visitors with the heat and steam.
