How to choose and install the door peephole
The peephole has long been the same essential accessory of the front door as the lock. It is one of the simplest and most affordable elements to ensure our safety. The peephole door allows you to protect yourself from the visits of unexpected or unwanted guests. In addition, it allows you to assess the situation on the site in front of the door in case of any problems.

Classic door peephole

The design of a standard door peephole is simple:
- the lens is located on the side of the site in front of the entrance and provides its overview;
- the eyepiece is on the inside of the door;
- a tube with lenses;
- nuts external and internal.
The largest view that a convex external lens has is considered to be an angle of 180. But due to the fact that the picture along the edge is slightly blurry, many manufacturers began to produce eyes with a viewing angle of 200. When using such a device, you can get high-quality, clear image of the site in front of the door within 5 m.
The length of the door eye depends on the thickness of the door:
- 30-50 mm standard;
- 55-100 mm elongated;
- from 100 mm extra long.
Standard devices usually have 4 lenses, but depending on the length of the eye housing, their number in it can vary from 3 to 15 pieces.
Extra long and extra long eyes are used for doors with various decorative coatings. Most often, standard devices are used. They are enough for ordinary metal or wooden doors.
In order to be able to quietly go to the eye, it is equipped with curtains that do not allow light from the apartment.

The body of the eye is made of metal or plastic. The first option is more expensive, but will last much longer. The eyepieces of the device can be glass or plastic. The latter are more resistant to damage, but they may become cloudy over time and the image will lose clarity. Metal models with glass lenses are more expensive than plastic analogues, but this is justified by their quality and reliability. There are bulletproof and shockproof eyes, but such properties of products, of course, are reflected in their price.

It is not difficult to install classic door eyes at a height that is convenient for all adult family members; it is necessary to stick masking tape and make markings. Then drill on both sides of the door leaf. The hole should correspond to the diameter of the housing of the optical device. The eyelet tip with an external thread is inserted into the hole on the outside of the door and tightly screwed on the viewfinder with an internal thread on the inside.

In addition to the usual standard peepholes, there are modern products that make it as easy as possible to monitor the site in front of the house or apartment.
panoramic door peephole
The panoramic door is a special model, the lens of which is divided into two lenses. They have a wider angle of reception of the light flux horizontally and do not require a very close approximation to the eyepiece. A panoramic image on it can be seen from a distance of two steps and it is not necessary to stand strictly opposite the eye.
Installation of a panoramic door peephole will not take much time. Each such device is accompanied by a template with the necessary notes. It is glued from the outside of the door at the required height and a hole is drilled through its center with a drill. Then a drill of 3 mm makes four more indentations (5 mm) at the indicated marks. The outer eye cover must fit snugly into the prepared holes. A peephole with a pressure ring is inserted from the inside of the web and connected to the outside of the device by turning clockwise.
Eye-periscope
The periscope eye is distinguished by the fact that its eyepiece and lens are located at different heights. Inside the case of such devices mirrors are installed, due to which light transmission occurs. Such devices are very convenient for families with children. Its components can be located both at the bottom of the door and at the usual height, convenient for an adult.

The double peephole is installed on two doors, external and internal. Both parts are located on the same line, which allows you to see the visitor without access to the second wing. Image quality depends on the distance between the doors. It is desirable that it does not exceed 2 cm.
video-eye
Video-eye It works on the principle of a conventional hidden video camera, but differs from it both in purpose and in characteristics. It is ideal for observation in confined spaces of stairwells. The video peephole is equipped with IR illumination, which provides a good image even in the dark.
Signal transmission occurs in two ways:
- on the DMV radio channel, the video signal is converted into a radio-frequency TV signal using a television signal transmitter;
- by cable to the input of a monitor or TV.
On the canvas, the door peephole with the camera is installed similarly to the usual classic peephole. During installation, please note that the camera must not come in contact with metal. There are color and black and white video eyes. But the second option is preferable, such a camera has a higher photosensitivity.
Electronic door peephole
The electronic door peephole has appeared recently. It is suitable for any door and is inserted into the place of a regular peephole. The external part consists of an infrared LED, a light sensor and a bell. Using a plate and screws, it is mounted on the inside of the door, the cable is connected to the indoor unit.
When you click on the bell, the LCD screen is turned on, which displays what is happening on the site. It can be noted that the viewing angle of such a device is slightly smaller than that of a conventional eye. But it does take pictures or videos showing the time and date of the visit, they are saved on a flash card. The door peephole works with the camera from AA batteries, so installing it does not require much effort.
By purchasing a door peephole whose price is 30-50 rubles, you can be sure that it was made in China or Belarus and, most likely, it will be a plastic product, and it will last only 2-3 years.
